The crossbow is the ranged preference of the Black Knight, mainly thanks to its stopping power. An avernic demon will rush a target at distance and then slash in close quarters. Having a crossbow stops a demon from getting to that troublesome second stage.
Our assumption is that you are not a demon, but the sentiment still applies. You will want to avoid a crossbow-wielding Black Knight at distance, and instead move in for a spot of slashing. You need to search for the demon inside yourself.
