Critical Care

Critical Care is a Dark and Darker quest assigned by the Surgeon merchant, part of the Beyond The Threshold Of Darkness quest line. I’ve discovered a powerful use for maggots and mold to help heal the body. If you don’t believe me here is what you need to do. There are 3 objectives to complete: Use 1× Surgical Kit; Bring 5× Maggots; Bring 5× Moldy Bread. All progress requires a successful extraction — items retrieved or kills made during a failed run do not count toward quest completion. Once every objective is fulfilled, return to Surgeon in the lobby to turn in the quest and receive the reward. This quest requires completing Precise as Ice before it becomes available from Surgeon. Completing Critical Care rewards 150 Gold, Random Rare Armor, 300 XP, Alchemist Affinity +5. The quest is completed in Ruins. Merchant quests in Dark and Darker are one of the most consistent gold and experience sources in the game, independent of loot luck on the Trading Post. Completing the full Surgeon quest chain unlocks higher reward tiers and increases merchant affinity, which can affect prices and open additional quest tiers in future seasons. The Beyond The Threshold Of Darkness chain provides a structured progression path through the Surgeon quest tree, and finishing each quest in order is the fastest route to the higher value objectives later in the line.
