Purging Darkness

Purging Darkness is a Dark and Darker quest assigned by the Surgeon merchant, part of the Beyond The Threshold Of Darkness quest line. I fear that the forces of darkness grow ever stronger. You must be our beacon of hope and if you should ever be injured in battle, remember what I have taught you. There are 3 objectives to complete: Kill 2× Cockatrice; Kill 5× Living Statue; Kill 7× Death Skull. All progress requires a successful extraction — items retrieved or kills made during a failed run do not count toward quest completion. Once every objective is fulfilled, return to Surgeon in the lobby to turn in the quest and receive the reward. This quest requires completing Critical Care before it becomes available from Surgeon. Completing Purging Darkness rewards 150 Gold, 4x Arcane Essence, 350 XP. The quest is completed in Ruins. Merchant quests in Dark and Darker are one of the most consistent gold and experience sources in the game, independent of loot luck on the Trading Post. Completing the full Surgeon quest chain unlocks higher reward tiers and increases merchant affinity, which can affect prices and open additional quest tiers in future seasons. The Beyond The Threshold Of Darkness chain provides a structured progression path through the Surgeon quest tree, and finishing each quest in order is the fastest route to the higher value objectives later in the line.
