A Legacy of Pain is a Dark and Darker quest assigned by the Treasurer merchant, part of the Ritualistic Debts quest line. Greetings. I’ve been occupied with a few matters lately—settling the debts of those who’ve passed and informing their kin of the burdens left behind. It’s a task that doesn’t get easier with time. But what’s more unsettling is the way these poor souls have been treated. Branded, tortured like animals, only to waste away in silence until death claims them. One of my patrons has provided me with a lead. They believe they know where their loved one was found. I think we should investigate. The objective is to explore outer cemetery. All progress requires a successful extraction — items retrieved or kills made during a failed run do not count toward quest completion. Once every objective is fulfilled, return to Treasurer in the lobby to turn in the quest and receive the reward. This quest requires completing Wagers and Favors before it becomes available from Treasurer. Completing A Legacy of Pain rewards 30 Gold, Random Uncommon Armor, 25 XP. The quest is completed in Ruins. Merchant quests in Dark and Darker are one of the most consistent gold and experience sources in the game, independent of loot luck on the Trading Post. Completing the full Treasurer quest chain unlocks higher reward tiers and increases merchant affinity, which can affect prices and open additional quest tiers in future seasons. The Ritualistic Debts chain provides a structured progression path through the Treasurer quest tree, and finishing each quest in order is the fastest route to the higher value objectives later in the line.
