How to beat Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple

Our strategy, built from the fight's numbers, followed by the game's own codex entry.

  • Dodge the red flashes: 1 attacks flash red. They can't be parried, so dodge through them instead of blocking.
  • The tightest tell is Roaring Shockwave: only 1.05s from the flash to the hit, so react to the flash, not the swing.
  • Bring Fire: it deals 16% more damage to Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple.
  • Poison builds up 16% faster on Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple.
  • Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple's Sha-Chi bar is 2,000: perfect parries and Guard Break attacks drain it, and an empty bar opens the boss to a finisher.

Fire and Poison both deal 16% more damage to Master Bi Hai, and Burn and Poison build up 16% faster. Leave Lightning behind, as it is resisted by 30% and Shock builds 30% slower. He has no Sha-Chi resistances, so Parries and combos break him at the normal rate.

The codex explains the main complication: as chants resound, a golden qi bell descends to shield him from blades, fire and water, while three Bronze Men appear to guard him and attack without rest until destroyed. Expect to face those guardians alongside him.

At level 8 his 8,000 base HP calculates to about 37,500 before difficulty, with roughly 6,300 Sha-Chi. He follows Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper in the Village of Lu, grants 15,600 Remnant Dust, and precedes Master Bi Yuan of the Tianxuan Sect.

Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple lore

The codex entry the game unlocks for Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple.

Beyond the Smuggler's Tunnel, Master Bi Hai's body waits in the stream. His monk's robes hang in tatters, and his half open eyes still show compassion. As chants resound, a golden qi bell descends to shield him from blades, fire, and water, while three Bronze Men appear to guard him and attack without rest until destroyed.

Master Bi Hai had long withdrawn from the world and seldom witnessed bloodshed. He wished only for peace across the realm, believing devotion to the Buddha's law could deliver people from calamity. Yet even the ancient temple could not shut out the sound of greed, and he came to realize that false teachings had already taken hold.

Master Bi Yuan's invitation gave him a chance to put that belief to the test. Though already in his seventies, he willingly faced danger, hoping through faith to guide the lost and prove the path of deliverance. Even knowing the Herald had taken villagers hostage and set a trap, he entered it willingly, offering himself in exchange for their freedom.

His body is bound, unable to live or die, yet his steadfast heart keeps Phantom Arts from leading him astray. Now he has burned himself as a lamp, casting a single ray of clarity. He hopes the prayer beads he leaves behind may help those still trapped see the emptiness of the Five Aggregates and find release from suffering.
