St. Mihai's sword is the one legendary weapon in The Blood of Dawnwalker that you build rather than find. It starts as the Broken Sword of St. Mihai you pull from his crypt in A Monk and a Saint and ends as the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai, a 54–78 damage great sword with bonuses no shop item matches. Getting there takes one main quest, the Forge It Anew activity with its three shard hunts, a visit to a lone uriashi blacksmith and one ritual fight. This guide walks the whole chain in order, with the numbers for every version of the blade.

Step 1: Take the broken sword in A Monk and a Saint

The chain opens with the Act 1 main quest A Monk and a Saint. Start by finding Albertus in the far north of the Middens: hold Focus Mode and look for the house covered in highlighted scribbles, then talk to him by writing with charcoal, because he never speaks. The crypt is not inside Svartrau Cathedral but under a grave in its courtyard, and you need St. Mihai's symbol to recognise the right stone. Read the cathedral chronicle in the library or inspect the frescoes from the scaffolding; either reveals it. Facing the cathedral, the second grave from the right carries the symbol. Inside the crypt, break the cracked wall Focus Mode highlights, defeat Mihai and pick up the Broken Sword of St. Mihai, a 35–51 damage great sword that is already usable.

Step 2: Mihai's cell starts Forge It Anew

Before you leave the crypt, search St. Mihai's cell with Focus Mode. Mihai's Journal explains that only an uriashi blacksmith can reforge the silver sword, and that its shards were carried off by kobolds when it shattered. That discovery starts the Forge It Anew activity, which has two threads you can do in either order: find the three Sword Shards, and find the blacksmith, who according to the journal lives alone north of Parlita, closer to the mountains.

Where the three Sword Shards are

Each shard is its own short activity and each pays 250 XP. The first nest cave you clear contains a crudely drawn map: inspect it with Focus Mode and the other nests are pinned on your map, so start with whichever is closest to you. Every step below is pinned on the linked quest page.

  1. 1
Do Not Disturb: Maragir Wealds, near Laslea

Follow the trail marked with a hand symbol in the north-east of Maragir Wealds to a kobold cave. Kill the kobolds, then investigate the cave and the abandoned campsite outside with Focus Mode; a bloody trail leads to the nest near Laslea where the shard lies. Story time: 3 units. Do Not Disturb walkthrough

  2. 2
Hostile Takeover: Boar's Back, near Shrike's Crag

A dark cave near Shrike's Crag hides the second nest, and a large monster guards it. Kill it, search the cave with Focus Mode and loot the shard from the nest. Story time: 3 units. Hostile Takeover walkthrough

  3. 3
Executive Order: the soldiers' camp near Tantari

The cave near Tantari is empty when you arrive: the soldiers camped nearby got there first. Investigate the cave with Focus Mode and read the letter from Xanthe, then search the camp for what they took; the shard is in a highlighted tent. Story time: 2 units. Executive Order walkthrough

The uriashi blacksmith

The blacksmith is Nareh, an uriashi living alone at a hermitage shrine in Briar Sloughs: a standing stone inside a circle, up a forested hill, exactly where the journal points, north of Parlita towards the mountains. Talk to her and she agrees to reforge the blade. Hand over the broken sword and all three shards and she returns the Restored Sword of St. Mihai, a 46–67 damage epic. The game data also carries a Partly Restored and a Mostly Restored version, but bringing every shard at once takes you straight to the restored blade.

Tempering: the ritual cave and the shadows

Restored is not finished. Nareh explains that the silver sword still needs tempering at a place you will recognise when you see it. Head north-west from her shrine to a cave, fight through the enemies inside, then climb up and go through the door at the end into an ancient ritual chamber. Interacting with the glowing altar summons waves of shadows; defeat them all and a cutscene hands you the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai, completes Forge It Anew for 500 XP and a skill point, and unlocks the Arbiter's Blade trophy.

Every stage is a great sword, so the Swordmastery skills you already run keep working, and the Imbued version is the only stage with the bonus against corrupted enemies. Compare it with the other 51 legendary items on the Legendary gear page.

Guide FAQ

Where is St. Mihai's sword?

In his crypt under a grave in the Svartrau Cathedral courtyard. You take the broken version from Mihai himself at the end of A Monk and a Saint; the rest of the chain restores it.

How many Sword Shards are there in Forge It Anew?

Three, one per activity: near Laslea in Maragir Wealds (Do Not Disturb), near Shrike's Crag in Boar's Back (Hostile Takeover) and in the soldiers' camp near Tantari (Executive Order). Each pays 250 XP.

Where is the uriashi blacksmith?

Nareh lives at a hermitage shrine in Briar Sloughs, north of Parlita towards the mountains: a standing stone in a circle at the top of a forested hill.

Is the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai worth it?

Yes: 54–78 damage, sword skill cooldown −5%, melee crit chance +5%, sword crit damage +7.5% and +8% damage against corrupted enemies, on a great sword you can use with any Swordmastery build. Published walkthroughs rate it among the best weapons in the game.

Can you miss St. Mihai's sword?

Only by running out of story time. Forge It Anew's own failure ending is the coronation arriving before you finish ("Brencis is my real goal"); there is no other way to lose the chain, and the broken sword stays usable throughout.
