"Nobody remembers second place", they say. Well, Zaros came second-place to Zamorak, and Zaros is doing pretty well for himself. Lougrim was second-place to Kuldra and people still remember her. I mean, sure, they're not perfect comparisons (they're both gods and at least one of them is dead), but you get the intention. You're special.
Plus, there's the small matter that a gold medal could still be in your future. There is still time for you to become Zamorak and Kuldra in the above scenarios.
