When Pyke Top gets stronger, in the order it happens in a typical ranked game: ability unlocks from the most common skill order, item spikes at the median minute players finish them, and the game length Pyke wins most.

All three basic abilities at level 3
Pyke's full combo is online — the first point where trading all-in is realistic.
Lv 6
Ultimate rank 1 at level 6
The biggest early spike: look for a kill or a roam as soon as Pyke hits it.
Lv 11
Ultimate rank 2 at level 11
Lower ultimate cooldown means more fights Pyke can start or win.
Lv 16
Ultimate rank 3 at level 16
Lower ultimate cooldown means more fights Pyke can start or win.

Item timings are medians: half of players finish later. Fall behind in farm and every item spike moves back with it.

Pyke is not a damage carry (12/100): don't take fights expecting Pyke to win them alone.
Pyke falls behind in CS (13/100): last-hit the waves you can, items still matter.

Playing Pyke

Pyke is very fragile so don't be afraid to temporarily run from a fight. You can regenerate a significant amount of health from Gift of the Drowned Ones when enemies can't see you.
Hitting an enemy with the Hold version of Bone Skewer will always pull them the same distance. Use it in melee range to throw targets behind you.
The Tap version of Bone Skewer is much faster and deals additional damage.
A lot of your agressive spells are also your escapes. Make sure you always have a plan to get out of the fight.

Playing Against Pyke

Pyke regenerates a significant amount of damage he has taken from enemy champions, but only when you can't see him!
When Pyke is hidden nearby in his Ghostwater Dive, sharks will circle underneath your feet.
Try not to stand near low health allies. If Pyke executes them using Death From Below, you might be next on the list.
