How to beat Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner

Our strategy, built from the fight's numbers, followed by the game's own codex entry.

  • Parry the blue flashes: 1 of Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner's 8 attacks flash blue before they land, and a timed parry stops them.
  • Dodge the red flashes: 1 attacks flash red. They can't be parried, so dodge through them instead of blocking.
  • The tightest tell is Four-Hit Wheel Combo: only 0.54s from the flash to the hit, so react to the flash, not the swing.
  • Dashing Grab is a grab: dodge it, because blocking and parrying don't stop a grab.
  • Bring Lightning: it deals 30% more damage to Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner.
  • Shock builds up 30% faster on Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner.
  • Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner's Sha-Chi bar is 3,000: perfect parries and Guard Break attacks drain it, and an empty bar opens the boss to a finisher.

Lightning is the standout pick against the Whirling Executioner, dealing 30% more damage with Shock building 30% faster. Frost still helps at 16% more damage and 16% longer duration, but Fire and Poison are cut by 60%, Water by 30%, and Burn, Poison and Bleed build up 60% slower.

This form is bigger: 10,000 base HP and 3,000 base Sha-Chi, roughly 150,200 HP and 34,016 Sha-Chi at an estimated level 22 before difficulty. Parries drain 40% less Sha-Chi, but unlike his first form he has no extra resistance while guarding, so steady combo pressure pays off.

The codex describes a ghost-faced saw wheel bursting from his body and merging with the Flying Guillotine. It follows Huangxing, the Kunlun Renegade (boss #64) and leads to Qiu Feng, the Crimson Boneblade at Mirage Estate. The kill pays 140,000 Remnant Dust and the Flying Guillotine Phantom Edge.

Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner lore

The codex entry the game unlocks for Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner.

A ghost-faced saw wheel bursts from his body and merges with the Flying Guillotine. His mind takes shape as a phantom realm, where the statue of the Lady of the Veil stands tall, revealing the supreme secret he longs to uncover and the overwhelming power he seeks to claim. It also conceals the true statue in the shrine, and the gaze of Moji sealed within it.

The saw wheel roars and spins. He has cast aside the form of a human, and seems to have cast aside the last of his humanity. It was he who sealed Moji inside the statue, to prove himself right, to make him witness the Mandate’s decay, and to show him the new Wulin he would forge.

The saw wheel roars and spins. His remaining guilt, rage, and resentment, the last vestiges of his humanity, seem to fade away. The power he seeks is so immense. What does it matter if he sacrifices his flesh and humanity to obtain it?

The saw wheel roars and spins. He throws himself into a frenzy of slaughter, finally freed from having to face the statue in his heart. Moji would never accept him like this. Now, he no longer needs his approval.
