How to beat Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute
Our strategy, built from the fight's numbers, followed by the game's own codex entry.
- Parry the blue flashes: 1 of Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute's 11 attacks flash blue before they land, and a timed parry stops them.
- Dodge the red flashes: 2 attacks flash red. They can't be parried, so dodge through them instead of blocking.
- The tightest tell is Triple Saber Combo: only 0.41s from the flash to the hit, so react to the flash, not the swing.
- Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute adds new attacks below 50% HP, so expect the moveset to change at 50%.
- Bring Lightning: it deals 16% more damage to Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute.
- Poison builds up 16% faster on Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute.
- Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute's Sha-Chi bar is 2,000: perfect parries and Guard Break attacks drain it, and an empty bar opens the boss to a finisher.
Use Poison or Lightning against Jagged Steel. Both deal 16% more damage, and Poison and Shock build up 16% faster. He has no resistances and no Sha-Chi modifiers, so ordinary combo pressure breaks his 2,000 base Sha-Chi without fuss.
He is the first boss of Weeping Creek Valley, whose level band is 1 to 4. At level 4 his 6,000 base HP calculates to roughly 15,500 before difficulty modifiers, with about 3,570 Sha-Chi.
The codex calls him a witless, frenzied brute whose chipped, rusted blade still tears wounds that will not stop bleeding, so respect his swings rather than trading hits. Defeating him awards 12,000 Remnant Dust and his weapon, Jagged Steel, which you can equip yourself. Peng Meng, the Axemaster is next.
