[the Lady’s Sacred Scroll] I: Pang Sheng Meets the Lady Page 3 of 10 · Mystery of the Lady

The Lady of the Veil is a divine spirit of great compassion, bringing relief to the suffering of the world. Her emissary, the Herald, often ties red blossoms to the faces of Buddha statues, allowing the Lady to witness the suffering of humankind.

There once was a young man named Pang Sheng, frail from birth. One night, he was struck by agonizing pain in his chest and groaned until dawn. The Lady appeared to Pang Sheng’s mother in a dream and said, “Your son’s illness runs deep. Cover his face with a silk blossom, and as he sleeps at night, have him sincerely repeat my name in silence.”

The Pang family followed her instructions. Sure enough, Pang Sheng’s lingering illness vanished. Within days, he had grown strong and healthy, and even acquired martial skill.
