Carnage Playstyle and Archetype
Necrosis Rushdown / Conditional Pressure
Carnage spends the early part of an exchange trying to land Parasite Fang. Everything he does afterwards is better, and Parasite Bomb is the cash-out that ends the state.
The whole character is a conditional. Parasite Fang applies Necrosis and lasts longer if it hits — so landing it is both the setup and the reward. From that point, any Skill of his that connects with the infected opponent opens up Parasite Bomb, a follow-up that only exists while the state does. Spend it and the state is gone, so the timing of the cash-out is the real decision.
Underneath the gimmick he has genuinely good pressure tools. Mutilate is a leaping forward slash whose Medium version lets him keep moving on block, and its aerial counterpart Dismember has the same property — a Skill that does not simply end your turn when it is guarded is exactly what a rushdown character wants. Guillotine Axe is a chargeable overhead slam with armour partway, which beats opponents trying to interrupt.
- Mutilate Medium and Dismember Medium let him keep moving on block — pressure that does not end
- Guillotine Axe is a chargeable overhead with armour partway through
- Vicious Skewer does extra damage at the tip, so his poke rewards precise spacing
- Sadistic Scythe is a wide-area anti-air that shrugs off air attacks midway
- Absolute Carnage infects the leader with Necrosis directly, guaranteeing the state
- Everything good is gated behind landing Parasite Fang first
- Parasite Bomb ends Necrosis, so his best follow-up is self-limiting
- Recovery on his Skills is punishing when they are read
- No Free Flight and no long-range answer — he has to walk in
- A character who denies him contact denies him most of the kit
Carnage Game Plan
A Carnage round has a clear before and after. Before Necrosis you are looking for a safe way to apply it. After Necrosis you are looking for the right moment to cash it out.
| Phase | Tools | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Mutilate M, Dismember M (keep moving on block) | Get in without giving up your turn |
| Apply | Parasite Fang, Absolute Carnage | Get Necrosis onto the opponent |
| Pressure | Any Skill that hits a Necrosis target | Open up Parasite Bomb |
| Cash out | Parasite Bomb | Spend the state for damage — it ends here |
Neutral. Vicious Skewer is the long-range stab, and it does extra damage at the tip — so it rewards spacing it precisely rather than throwing it from anywhere. Heavy has a follow-up. Sadistic Scythe is the wide-area answer that shrugs off air attacks midway, which is your anti-air on a roster with plenty of air mobility.
Applying Necrosis. Parasite Fang is the primary — a long grounded arm attack that applies the state and lasts longer on hit, so a clean hit buys you more time than a chip application. Absolute Carnage, the Ultimate, infects the leader with Necrosis directly as part of the move, which makes it a legitimate way to guarantee the state rather than fish for it.
Pressure with the state on. Once Necrosis is applied, Parasite Bomb is available as a follow-up whenever a Skill of his hits a Necrosis target. This means all of his normal pressure now carries an extra threat, and the opponent has to respect a follow-up that did not exist a moment ago. Use Guillotine Axe here — a chargeable overhead with armour partway that follows up on charge or counter-hit.
The cash-out. Because Parasite Bomb ends the state, using it early gives up the pressure advantage that made it available. The correct time to spend it is when the damage matters — closing out a character, or converting a hit you will not get again. Otherwise, let the state ride and keep the threat alive.
Carnage Key Moves
Nine command list entries. Two of them are the state, and three of them are how you survive long enough to apply it.
Parasite Fang
UniqueLong grounded arm attack that applies Necrosis, lasting longer on hit.
The prerequisite. A long grounded arm attack that applies Necrosis and lasts longer on hit — everything good about Carnage is downstream of this.
- A clean hit buys more state time than a chip application. Land it properly.
Parasite Bomb
UniqueFollow-up once a Skill hits a Necrosis target. Using it ends the state.
The payoff, and the dilemma. Available as a follow-up once a Skill hits a Necrosis target — and using it ends the state.
- Spend it when the damage closes something out. Otherwise keep the threat alive.
Mutilate
Skills25 Skill GaugeLeaping forward slash. Medium lets him keep moving on block, Heavy has a follow-up.
The safe approach. The Medium version lets him keep moving on block, so a guarded approach does not end your turn.
Dismember
Skills25 Skill GaugeAir leg slam. Medium keeps him moving on block, Heavy adds a follow-up.
The air version of the same idea — Medium keeps him moving on block, so his jump-ins are as low-commitment as his ground game.
Guillotine Axe
Skills25 Skill GaugeChargeable overhead slam with armour partway. Heavy follows up on charge or counter-hit.
The overhead, and his armoured option. Chargeable, with armour partway, and Heavy follows up on charge or counter-hit.
Vicious Skewer
Skills25 Skill GaugeLong-range stab that does extra damage at the tip. Heavy has a follow-up.
The poke, with a spacing reward — extra damage at the tip, and Heavy has a follow-up.
Sadistic Scythe
Skills25 Skill GaugeWide area attack that shrugs off air attacks midway. Heavy adds a follow-up.
The anti-air. A wide area attack that shrugs off air attacks midway, with a Heavy follow-up.
Absolute Carnage
Ultimate Skills100 Skill GaugeTendrils erupt along the ground, harder up close, and infect the leader with Necrosis.
The Ultimate, and a guaranteed state: tendrils along the ground, harder up close, that infect the leader with Necrosis.
- This is a setup tool as much as a finisher — it removes the need to fish for Parasite Fang.
Bloodbath
Super Skills50 Skill GaugeSweeps a wide area with a barrage of tendrils.
Your Super — sweeps a wide area with a barrage of tendrils, and the reliable 50-gauge ender.
Carnage Combos
Basic confirm
The universal opener into Mutilate. Using the Medium version means a blocked ender still leaves you in a position to continue.
Apply the state
Less damage than a full route, but you leave the exchange with the state on — which makes every subsequent exchange better.
Necrosis pressure
The signature Carnage sequence. Only works with Necrosis applied — and it ends the state, so make the hit count.
Air approach
Dismember Medium is a low-commitment jump-in. Vicious Skewer does extra damage at the tip, so spacing the ender matters.
Guaranteed state via Ultimate
100 Skill GaugeAbsolute Carnage is harder up close and infects the leader with Necrosis, so it removes the need to fish for the application entirely.
Carnage Team Synergy and Assists
Carnage as an assist brings a long grounded arm attack that applies Necrosis, which is a genuinely rare assist effect — it applies a state to the opponent that your point character can then exploit. What he needs on point is help getting the initial contact, because the entire kit is gated behind it.
Green GoblinThe Knights of Doom pairing that works. Status bombs plus Necrosis is a lot of debuffs on one opponent.
MagnetoMagnetise drags them into the range where Carnage can actually apply Necrosis.
Doctor DoomNullify Shield turns off the projectiles that would otherwise keep Carnage out.
StormA set Tornado stops the opponent backing away from Parasite Fang.Carnage is a strong second character in MARVEL Tōkon. He wants the opponent already occupied when he arrives, because his weakest moment is the approach and his strongest is the twenty seconds after Necrosis lands. A point character who forces the opponent to block is the ideal setup for him.
Carnage Matchups
Every bad Carnage matchup is a character who can refuse contact. Against them, stop hunting for Parasite Fang in neutral — use Vicious Skewer at tip range and Sadistic Scythe to contest the air, take the Ultimate to guarantee the state rather than fishing for it, and accept that you win in short bursts rather than continuous pressure.
Carnage has to infect you first — Parasite Fang applies Necrosis, and once it is on, every Skill that hits opens up Parasite Bomb and his pressure stops being a gamble. Carnage is a Necrosis Rushdown / Conditional Pressure, rated 3 out of 5 for difficulty. Their defining traits are Necrosis, Parasite Bomb, Safe on block, Risky without setup.

Carnage How to Play FAQ
How does Necrosis work for Carnage in MARVEL Tōkon?
Necrosis is a state Carnage applies to the opponent, primarily with Parasite Fang — a long grounded arm attack that applies the state and lasts longer if it hits cleanly. His Ultimate, Absolute Carnage, also infects the leader with Necrosis directly. While it is active, Parasite Bomb becomes available as a follow-up whenever one of his Skills hits the infected opponent, but using Parasite Bomb ends the state.
When should Carnage use Parasite Bomb in MARVEL Tōkon?
When the damage matters — closing out a character, or converting a hit you are unlikely to get again. Because Parasite Bomb ends Necrosis, spending it early gives up the pressure advantage that made it available in the first place. If the round is not close to a decision, it is usually better to let the state ride and keep the threat alive.
Why is Carnage risky without Necrosis in MARVEL Tōkon?
Because his best follow-ups do not exist yet and his Skill recovery is punishing when read. The fix is not to throw Parasite Fang out carelessly — it is to approach with Mutilate Medium and Dismember Medium, both of which let him keep moving on block, so a guarded approach does not end his turn and he can work toward a safe application.
What is Carnage's safest approach in MARVEL Tōkon?
Mutilate on Medium, and its aerial counterpart Dismember on Medium. Both let him keep moving on block, which means a blocked approach still leaves him in a position to continue rather than sitting in recovery. Guillotine Axe is the other option when you expect an interrupt, since it is a chargeable overhead with armour partway through.
Is Carnage good for beginners in MARVEL Tōkon?
He is a reasonable intermediate pick. The execution is not demanding and his moving-on-block Skills are forgiving, but the conditional structure means a new player often ends up playing the weak half of the character — pressing buttons without Necrosis applied. Once you internalise that Parasite Fang comes first, he becomes much more straightforward.
Who counters Carnage in MARVEL Tōkon?
Anyone who can refuse contact. Iron Man's Free Flight denies him the approach entirely and Carnage has no long-range answer. Star-Lord has four elements and full air mobility to stay away. Ms. Marvel makes the approach expensive with her long normals and can dodge the application attempt outright with Flex On 'Em. Against all three, use the Ultimate to guarantee Necrosis rather than fishing for Parasite Fang.
