WoW Forever Talent Points Explained: 51 Points
How WoW Forever talents work: 51 points from level 10, tiers of 5, prerequisites, 31-point talents at 40, dual spec, and how to share builds in our calculator.
Talents in WoW Forever work the way Classic players remember: one point per level from 10, three trees per class, and deeper talents gated behind points spent in the same tree. What changed is the content of the trees: 331 of the 432 talents differ from Classic. This guide explains the rules exactly as our calculator applies them, and how to plan and share a build.
How many talent points do you get?
One point per level from 10 to 60 inclusive is 51 points. You never get more, so a build always has to leave things out. The table shows where you are at each milestone.
| Level | Points | What you can reach |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 1 | Tier 1 talents |
| 14 | 5 | Tier 2 opens (5 points in one tree) |
| 20 | 11 | Tier 3 (10 points in one tree) |
| 30 | 21 | Tier 5 (20 points in one tree) |
| 40 | 31 | Tier 7: your first 31-point talent |
| 50 | 41 | A deep tree plus a second tree |
| 60 | 51 | Full build, for example 31/20/0 or 21/30/0 |
Tiers, prerequisites and ranks
- 1Spend in tiers of 5
Tier 1 is open from the start. Every next tier needs 5 more points spent in that same tree: 5 for tier 2, 10 for tier 3, up to 30 for tier 7. Points in other trees do not count.
- 2Respect prerequisites
65 talents need another talent first, shown as an arrow in the calculator. For example, Mortal Strike needs Sweeping Strikes, and Anger Management needs all 5 ranks of Improved Tactical Mastery.
- 3Fill ranks
Talents have 1 to 5 ranks: 85 have 1 rank, 95 have 2, 88 have 3, 2 have 4 and 162 have 5. Each rank costs one point.
- 4You cannot pull points from under a deeper talent
Removing a point is only allowed if every talent you still have keeps its tier requirement and prerequisites. That is the in-game rule, and the calculator follows it.
The 31-point talents
The bottom of each tree is the reward for going deep. These are the tier 7 talents in the Forever client:
| Class | Tier 7 talents |
|---|---|
| Warrior | Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst, Shield Slam |
| Paladin | Holy Shock, Holy Shield, Repentance |
| Hunter | Bestial Wrath, Trueshot Aura |
| Rogue | Vigor, Adrenaline Rush, Premeditation |
| Priest | Power Infusion, Lightwell, Shadowform |
| Shaman | Elemental Mastery, Stormstrike, Mana Tide Totem |
| Mage | Arcane Power, Combustion, Ice Barrier |
| Warlock | Soul Link, Improved Spellstone, Conflagrate |
| Druid | Moonkin Form, Leader of the Pack, Swiftmend |
Two trees (Survival and Affliction) have a tier 7 talent whose name is still hidden in the client. Check each tree in the talent calculator.
Using the WoW Forever talent calculator
- 1Pick your class
Open the talent calculator and choose a class, or go straight to one, for example the Mage talent calculator.
- 2Add and remove points
The counter shows points spent and the level you need for them (points + 9). Talents you cannot take yet are greyed out.
- 3Follow the arrows
Prerequisite arrows show which talent unlocks which. Hover any talent for its tooltip.
- 4Reset a tree or start over
Each tree has its own reset, so you can rework one tree without losing the others.
- 5Share your build
The address bar updates with a build code (
?b=). Copy the link to share it; anyone who opens it sees the same build.
The build code is one digit per talent (its rank) in tier and column order, one block per tree, separated by dashes, with trailing zeros dropped. For example 2305-0-5001 means three trees: the first with four talents taken, the second empty, the third with two. It is the same shape players know from other Classic calculators.
Respec and dual spec
You can reset your talents at your class trainer for a gold fee, as in Classic; Blizzard used cheaper resets during the beta and has not published launch prices. Blizzard says dual specialization unlocks at level 40 from your class trainer, so you can save a second set of talents (for example a leveling build and a dungeon build) and swap between them outside combat.
| Class | Trees | Max points per tree (all ranks) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Arms, Fury, Protection | 59 / 60 / 53 |
| Paladin | Holy, Protection, Retribution | 45 / 50 / 45 |
| Hunter | Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival | 48 / 52 / 48 |
| Rogue | Assassination, Combat, Subtlety | 46 / 62 / 47 |
| Priest | Discipline, Holy, Shadow | 48 / 48 / 48 |
| Shaman | Elemental, Enhancement, Restoration | 46 / 52 / 52 |
| Mage | Arcane, Fire, Frost | 47 / 46 / 50 |
| Warlock | Affliction, Demonology, Destruction | 49 / 52 / 53 |
| Druid | Balance, Feral Combat, Restoration | 52 / 46 / 53 |
