Saint Cuthbert lived as a hermit on the Farne Islands in the North Sea, where he was often seen praying while standing amidst the waves. Though a recluse, he became Bishop of Lindisfarne in 684. But after two years, sensing his death was near, he laid down the office and returned to his hermitage. When his body was later found incorrupt, his relics brought many blessings across the land as a wonder of God’s grace.
