CS2 Dust II Guide: Callouts, Long and Short Control, Key Smokes, and Real Match Data
Learn Dust II in CS2: official callouts, the Long A, Short and B fights, CT and T fundamentals, the official smoke lineups, and side win rates from 3,217 MetaBot-recorded regulation rounds.
Dust II is the most recognisable map in Counter-Strike and still one of the most played in CS2. It is wide open and aim-heavy: long sightlines down Long A and mid reward good crosshair placement and the AWP, and there are fewer corners and less verticality than on newer maps. That makes it a great map to learn fundamentals on, but it also means a few key fights (Long doors, Xbox and the B tunnels) decide most rounds. This guide covers the callouts, the fights that matter on each side, the utility worth learning, and what our match data says.
Dust II layout and key callouts
T spawn is at the south of the map and CT spawn is in the north, right beside A site. A is reached by Long A (through Outside Long and Long Doors) or by Short (up Catwalk from mid). B is reached through the Tunnels. Mid connects everything: the CTs use Mid Doors to rotate to B, and the Ts use Top of Mid and Xbox to reach Short. All official callouts are plotted on the interactive Dust II map.
| Area | Official callouts | Community names you will hear |
|---|---|---|
| Long A | Outside Long, Long Doors, Long A, Pit, Side, A Ramp | Blue, Long corner, Car |
| A site | Bombsite A, Extended A, Under A, Short Stairs | Goose, Default, Short |
| Mid | Top of Mid, Middle, Catwalk, Mid Doors | Xbox, CT Mid, Suicide |
| B approach (T side) | Outside Tunnel, Upper Tunnel, Lower Tunnel, Tunnel Stairs | Tunnels, Upper, Lower |
| B site | Bombsite B, B Doors, Hole | Back plat, Window, B car, Big box |
CT side fundamentals
A typical CT setup is two on A (one holding Long, often with the AWP, and one covering Short), one in mid at Mid Doors, and two on B. CT spawn is close to A, so A can afford to be held lighter in the early round. B is further away, which is why the mid player's info is so valuable: a T team that walks through Lower Tunnel into mid can cut the B rotation.
- 1Win or delay the Long fight
The first contact on Long Doors sets the tone for A. An incendiary or HE at Long Doors early slows a rush, and a teammate's flash lets the Long player take a safe first look. If you lose Long, fall back toward A site rather than dying alone at Pit.
- 2Watch Short from mid
The mid player at Mid Doors sees Ts crossing to Catwalk. Calling a mid cross early lets the A players turn toward Short before the Ts reach the site.
- 3Make Tunnels expensive
On B, a molotov at the tunnel exit and a flash for your Window or Back plat player punishes the five-man tunnel rush. Do not both peek the tunnel at once; play for the trade.
- 4Rotate through mid, not around
The fastest path from A to B is through CT Spawn and Mid Doors. Smoke or flash Mid Doors on the way so the Ts in mid cannot pick off the rotation.
T side fundamentals
Dust II T rounds usually start with a decision: commit players to Long, cross mid to Short, or group in Upper Tunnels for B. The Xbox smoke from T Spawn is the key mid utility, because it blocks the CT mid sightline while your team crosses to Catwalk. Long control is usually won with a flash over Long Doors and a trade, not with a dry peek into the AWP.
- Take Long control and cross Xbox to Short
- Smoke CT (from Short) and A Cross (from Long) to cut the rotation
- Flash over the site as Long and Short swing together
- Plant default and hold Long, Short and CT crossfires
- Smoke B Doors to stop the CT rotation
- Smoke or flash Window and Back plat
- Molotov the close corners players hide in
- Leave one player in Lower Tunnel to stop a mid flank
VerdictA splits are more common because Long and Short give two angles at once and the CT rotation is short. B is the faster hit and punishes a CT team that over-rotates to A after Long contact.
Key utility: the seven official lineups
Dust II ships with seven official smoke lineups in the map files, shown with throw spot, aim point and landing on the Dust II lineups page. Four are T-side smokes for mid control and both executes; three are CT-side smokes for slowing pushes. Need help with the jump throws? See the smokes and utility fundamentals guide.
| Smoke | Side | Throw | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox | T | Jump throw from T Spawn, standing in the corner | Blocks the CT mid sightline so you can cross to Short |
| B Doors | T | Jump throw from Outside Tunnel, in the corner by the trash | Cuts the CT rotation into B |
| A Cross | T | Standing throw from the Long side, at the end of the blue trash | Blocks the cross from CT Spawn so Long can push onto A |
| Mid CT | T | Jump throw in mid, against the middle of the door | Smokes the CT Mid area to take mid |
| CT | T | Standing throw from Short, standing in the corner | Cuts CT Spawn off from A for a Short take |
| B Tunnel | CT | Jump throw from B site, standing in the corner | Blocks the tunnel exit to stall a B rush |
| Long A Doors | CT | Standing throw from A, standing in the corner | Smokes Long Doors to delay a Long push |
What our match data says about Dust II
These numbers come from 161 Premier and Competitive matches (3,217 regulation rounds) recorded by the MetaBot desktop app, plus FACEIT map aggregates. Overtime is excluded from the side stats. It is our largest CS2 map sample, so the ranges are tight. The live version is on the Dust II overview page.

| Matches that went to overtime | 2.5% | 4 of 161 matches |
| Average rounds per match | 20.1 | 161 matches |
| FACEIT pick rate | 23.4% | 74,013 FACEIT matches |
| FACEIT average ADR | 78.6 | 74,013 FACEIT matches |
| FACEIT average utility damage per player | 80 | 74,013 FACEIT matches |
Dust II is as close to a coin flip as a map gets: CT wins 49.4% of rounds with a 95% confidence interval of 47.6% to 51.1%, and pistol rounds split exactly 50/50. The split holds in both queues (48.8% CT in Premier, 49.5% in Competitive). The more striking number is the halftime one: the team leading at the half wins 90.3% of matches decided in regulation, and only 2.5% of matches go to overtime. On Dust II, a good first half usually decides the game, so treat rounds 1 to 12 with the same urgency as the second half.

Guide FAQ
Is Dust II CT-sided or T-sided in CS2?
Neither. In 3,217 regulation rounds recorded by MetaBot, CT won 49.4% (95% confidence interval 47.6% to 51.1%), and pistol rounds were split exactly 50/50.
What is Xbox on Dust II?
Xbox is the crate at the top of mid. Smoking it from T Spawn blocks the view from CT Mid and lets your team cross to Catwalk and Short safely.
How do you win Long A on T side?
Use a flash over Long Doors and push with a teammate ready to trade. Do not dry-peek a CT AWP down Long; force them to use utility and take the fight on your timing.
How often does the halftime leader win on Dust II?
In our recorded matches, 90.3% of the time across 113 matches decided in regulation. Only 2.5% of matches went to overtime.
Where can I find Dust II smoke lineups?
Our Dust II lineups page shows the seven official smoke lineups from the map files, including Xbox, B Doors, A Cross and CT, with the throw spot, aim point and landing spot.
