Abilities FAQ

What are the three ability types?

Combat, Witchcraft, Vampire. Combat abilities come from Swordmastery and work at any hour; Witchcraft abilities are usable by Day; Vampire abilities are usable by Night. The catalogue lists 7, 10 and 10 of each.

What do abilities cost to use?

Active abilities spend Focus charges, which build up in combat, and then go on a cooldown measured in seconds. Some Vampire abilities also cost a share of your health. 14 abilities are passive and cost nothing once equipped.

How do I unlock abilities?

15 of the 27 abilities are learned by reading a manual, found in the world or bought from merchants; 5 unlock through quests. Each ability page names its manual and links to it.

How do ability levels work?

Every ability has four levels. Higher levels raise the numbers of its effects and can add new ones, and may change the charge cost or cooldown; the level table on each ability page shows exactly what changes.
