Zilean Lane Gold at 15 Minutes
Zilean's gold lead or deficit at 15:00 against the twelve most common Support opponents. Right of the line, Zilean is ahead; left, the opponent is.
From a champion selection perspective, the strongest Zilean counters are Thresh, Blitzcrank, Senna, and Milio. These champions either out-trade Zilean in lane, have abilities that negate Zilean's core mechanics, or scale better into team fights. Thresh in particular exploits Zilean's weaknesses by providing consistent pressure while being difficult to punish.
Beyond item builds and counter picks, successful counter play against Zilean involves understanding Zilean's power spikes and cooldown windows. Engage on Zilean when key abilities are on cooldown, and coordinate with your team to focus Zilean in team fights before Zilean can output maximum damage. Vision control is also crucial when playing against Zilean to avoid getting caught out of position. By combining proper defensive itemization with smart champion selection and strategic gameplay, you can effectively neutralize Zilean's impact and secure victory.
When to Counter Zilean - Game Phase Strategy
Zilean may be mana-dependent early. Punish after spell rotations when abilities are on cooldown. All-in when mana is depleted for advantageous trades.
Zilean's poke and zone control peaks mid game. Engage quickly to close the gap before Zilean can kite. Use flanks and hard engage to bypass poke damage.
Zilean provides strong team fight damage late. Prioritize diving Zilean or use assassins to reach the backline. Magic resist items become crucial.

Riot's tips for playing against Zilean
- If you're able to match Zilean's speed, it can sometimes be beneficial to wait until his ultimate has faded before landing the killing blow.
- Zilean is fragile if a team focuses on him, but otherwise he's very difficult to kill. Commit to killing him as a team.
