Once honored defenders of Shurima against the Void, Aatrox and his brethren would eventually become an even greater threat to Runeterra, and were defeated only by cunning mortal sorcery. But after centuries of imprisonment, Aatrox was the first to find freedom once more, corrupting and transforming those foolish enough to try and wield the magical weapon that contained his essence. Now, with stolen flesh, he walks Runeterra in a brutal approximation of his previous form, seeking an apocalyptic and long overdue vengeance.

Aatrox Strengths and Weaknesses

Where Aatrox stands against every champion this patch, from ranked game stats per minute.

Strengths

  • Healing: better than 90% of champions
  • Damage mitigated: better than 75% of champions

Weaknesses

Nothing stands out — close to average.

Aatrox ranks in the 84.9 percentile for early game strength, 30.2 percentile for late game scaling, 46.5 percentile for objective control, 56.1 percentile for support strength, 37.7 percentile for creep farming, and 62.3 percentile for damage output.

Aatrox demonstrates unique performance characteristics, with win rates showing a 2.9% decrease from Iron to Chal tiers. This pattern suggests that Aatrox may be more accessible for newer players while facing increased difficulty against higher-skilled opponents. In Iron tier, Aatrox achieves a 52.9% win rate, which gradually declines to 50.0% in Chal. This trend often indicates that Aatrox's strengths can be more effectively countered by experienced players who understand the champion's weaknesses and trading patterns. The declining performance (Iron (52.9%), Bronze (43.8%), Silver (50.0%), Gold (52.5%), Platinum (52.6%)) suggests that while Aatrox can be effective in lower ranks where opponents may not exploit vulnerabilities, higher-tier players are better equipped to neutralize Aatrox's advantages. However, this doesn't mean Aatrox is unviable at higher ranks - rather, it requires more sophisticated strategies, better macro play, and careful matchup selection. Players at higher elos should focus on understanding when to pick Aatrox, how to play around counters, and maximizing value in favorable matchups. Success with Aatrox at higher levels demands strong game sense, positioning, and the ability to adapt playstyle based on team compositions and enemy picks.
