Jax Power Spikes (Patch 26.20)

Mid

When Jax Mid gets stronger, in the order it happens in a typical ranked game: ability unlocks from the most common skill order, item spikes at the median minute players finish them, and the game length Jax wins most.

  1. Lv 3
All three basic abilities at level 3
Jax's full combo is online — the first point where trading all-in is realistic.
  2. Lv 6
Ultimate rank 1 at level 6
The biggest early spike: look for a kill or a roam as soon as Jax hits it.
  3. Lv 11
Ultimate rank 2 at level 11
Lower ultimate cooldown means more fights Jax can start or win.
  4. Lv 16
Ultimate rank 3 at level 16
Lower ultimate cooldown means more fights Jax can start or win.

Item timings are medians: half of players finish later. Fall behind in farm and every item spike moves back with it.

Jax Mid Laning Plan

Jax plays an even lane: no extreme in gold, leads or scaling, so the matchup decides how hard to push. On average Jax Mid is 142 gold behind the lane opponent at 15 minutes and ahead in only 48% of games. Jax averages 1.22 solo kills by 15 minutes.

Jax Mid and Late Game

What Jax does better or worse than other champions after laning, from this patch's ranked games — percentiles where 100 is the highest of every champion.

Play to these strengths

  • Side-lane pressure pays: Jax rates 92/100 for damage to buildings. Push a side wave while the team holds mid.
  • Play around dragons, Grubs and Baron — Jax rates 86/100 for objective control.
  • Jax wins 2.9 points more in short games than long ones: group, take objectives and end before the enemy scales.

Playing Jax

  • Jax can Leap Strike to friendly units, including wards. You can use them to plan your escape.
  • Jax benefits greatly from items that have both Ability Power and Attack Damage such as Guinsoo's Rageblade and Hextech Gunblade.

Playing Against Jax

  • Try to engage him in short bursts instead of going toe-to-toe with him. Preventing him from attacking consecutively drastically lowers his damage output.
  • Jax can dodge all incoming attacks for a very short amount of time and stuns enemies in melee range when it ends. Wait to strike him until after his dodge is finished.
