Kayn Power Spikes (Patch 26.19)

Mid

When Kayn Mid gets stronger, in the order it happens in a typical ranked game: ability unlocks from the most common skill order, item spikes at the median minute players finish them, and the game length Kayn wins most.

  1. Lv 3
All three basic abilities at level 3
Kayn's full combo is online — the first point where trading all-in is realistic.
  2. Lv 6
Ultimate rank 1 at level 6
The biggest early spike: look for a kill or a roam as soon as Kayn hits it.
  3. Lv 11
Ultimate rank 2 at level 11
Lower ultimate cooldown means more fights Kayn can start or win.
  4. Lv 16
Ultimate rank 3 at level 16
Lower ultimate cooldown means more fights Kayn can start or win.

Item timings are medians: half of players finish later. Fall behind in farm and every item spike moves back with it.

Kayn Mid Laning Plan

Kayn plays an even lane: no extreme in gold, leads or scaling, so the matchup decides how hard to push. On average Kayn Mid is 552 gold behind the lane opponent at 15 minutes and ahead in only 41% of games. Kayn averages 0.81 solo kills by 15 minutes.

Kayn Mid and Late Game

What Kayn does better or worse than other champions after laning, from this patch's ranked games — percentiles where 100 is the highest of every champion.

Play to these strengths

  • Kayn heals a lot (percentile 87): extended fights and sieges favor Kayn.
  • Kayn wins 20.3 points more in long games than short ones: avoid coin-flip fights early and let the game go long.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Kayn falls behind in CS (21/100): last-hit the waves you can, items still matter.

Playing Kayn

  • Look at the line-up of both your team and the enemy's team when picking your form.
  • Remember that nearby enemies can see which wall you're in.

Playing Against Kayn

  • Umbral Trespass requires Kayn to damage a target first. Try to dodge Blade's Reach to deny him a long range cast of Umbral Trespass.
  • When Kayn is in terrain near you, you will get a visual warning on the edge of the terrain he's in.
  • Damage Kayn while he's in Shadow Step to shorten its duration, or apply hard crowd control (stun, charm, knockup, etc) to end Shadow Step immediately.
