Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan
Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) is presented as part of Amazing Guardians in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, alongside Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Peni Parker. This page covers their identity, their team, the character-specific systems on their engine record and their movelist.
Ms. Marvel Playstyle and Archetype
Footsie Zoner / Long Reach
Ms. Marvel fights at a distance her opponent cannot reach, using stretched limbs as pokes. When they finally get close she dodges with Flex On 'Em and cancels straight back into offence.
The reason Ms. Marvel is easy to pick up is not that she is shallow — it is that her command list is unusually compact. Most of her Skills are a single motion plus Light (236 L, 6 L, 214 L) rather than three button variants each. Nine entries total, simple inputs, and every one of them does something clearly distinct.
What makes her genuinely good rather than merely simple is reach. Her embiggened limbs give her the longest normals in MARVEL Tōkon, and Elasti-Grab stretches an arm out to attack and hauls her that way, then cancels into other actions — so her long pokes double as a movement system. She fights at a range where the opponent has to make a mistake to reach her.
- The longest normals in the game — she controls a range nobody else can contest
- Simplified single-button Skill inputs make her very low-execution
- Flex On 'Em dodges everything except throws AND cancels into Skills, so defence turns into offence
- Zoom Knuckle beats projectiles, so zoners cannot hold her out
- Karate Chop! is a clean overhead and Rubber Bind is a grab — a real mix-up with two inputs
- Slow — her reach is her mobility, and against flight characters that is not enough
- Flex On 'Em loses to throws, and good opponents will start throwing her
- Elasti-Grab in the air is limited to once per jump direction
- Low damage per touch compared to Hulk or Wolverine; she wins on volume
- Little in the way of a comeback mechanic — no state, no stock, no transformation
Ms. Marvel Game Plan
Ms. Marvel's gameplan is the oldest one in fighting games and it still works: stand just outside their range and press buttons. The whole character is about making the opponent walk into something.
Neutral. Zoom Knuckle is the ranged fist — the grounded version fires level and the air version angles down, and it beats projectiles, which is why zoners cannot simply wall her out. Use it to punish anyone who tries to hold a screen against her, and use your long normals to control the space directly in front of you.
Movement. Elasti-Grab is her most underrated tool: it stretches an arm out to attack and hauls her that way, then cancels into other actions. That makes it an approach, a poke and a repositioning tool in one. The aerial version can also reach downward but is limited to once per jump direction, so plan the angle before you leave the ground.
Offense. The mix-up is two moves. Karate Chop! leaps up and swings both giant hands down as an overhead. Rubber Bind is a grab that squeezes, useful for close-range mix-ups. Overhead or grab is a genuinely hard guess for an opponent who is already worried about her normals, and neither requires execution.
Defense. Flex On 'Em is the standout — a dodge that evades everything except throws, and then cancels into her Unique moves or Skills. That last clause is what makes it special: most defensive options in MARVEL Tōkon give you your turn back, and this one gives you your turn back with a Skill already coming out. Jersey Lariat's grounded version also beats air attacks partway, so she has an anti-air.
Ms. Marvel Key Moves
Nine command list entries, which is the second-shortest on the roster — every one of them matters.
Flex On 'Em
UniqueDodge that evades everything except throws, then cancels into Unique moves or Skills.
The best defensive option she has, and one of the best in the game. Dodges everything except throws, then cancels into Unique moves or Skills — defence that immediately becomes offence.
- Cancel into Karate Chop! for an overhead the opponent has no time to react to.
Zoom Knuckle

The ranged fist, and her answer to zoners — it beats projectiles. Grounded fires level, the air version angles down.
Elasti-Grab
UniqueStretches an arm out to attack and hauls herself that way, then cancels into other actions.
Poke, approach and repositioning in one move. Stretches an arm out to attack and hauls her that way, then cancels into other actions.
- This is how a slow character covers ground. Use it more than you think you should.
Karate Chop!

The overhead. Leaps up and swings both giant hands down — half of her mix-up, and it costs nothing.
Rubber Bind
Skills25 Skill GaugeGrab that squeezes the opponent, useful for close-range mix-ups.
The other half. A grab that squeezes, built for close-range mix-ups against an opponent who has started blocking the overhead.
Jersey Lariat

The all-purpose spinning Skill. Medium rises, and the grounded version beats air attacks partway — which makes it her anti-air.
Elasti-Grab (Aerial)

The air Elasti-Grab, which can also reach downward. Limited to once per jump direction, so pick your angle deliberately.
Growing Pains

Your Super — a string of attacks with her enlarged arms, and the standard ender for any confirmed hit.
EMBIGGEN!
Ultimate Skills100 Skill GaugeGrabs, then follows with a giant attack. It can catch airborne opponents in hitstun.
The Ultimate. Grabs, then follows with a giant attack, and it can catch airborne opponents in hitstun — so it converts from air routes as well as grounded ones.
Ms. Marvel Combos
First combo to learn
The universal opener into Jersey Lariat. Her normals reach far enough that this connects from ranges most characters cannot start a combo at.
Overhead confirm
Karate Chop! is a genuine overhead with no execution barrier. Learn to confirm off it and half the mix-up is solved.
Dodge into offence
The signature Ms. Marvel sequence. Flex On 'Em cancels into Skills, so a successful dodge becomes an overhead they have almost no time to see.
Range extension
Elasti-Grab closes the gap and cancels into other actions, so it turns a max-range poke into a full combo.
Metered ender
50 Skill GaugeGrowing Pains is the reliable cash-out. With 100 gauge, EMBIGGEN! can catch airborne opponents in hitstun, so it converts from air routes too.
Ms. Marvel Team Synergy and Assists
Called in, Ms. Marvel covers an enormous horizontal area, which is a genuinely different assist effect from a projectile — it beats opponents standing at a range they thought was safe. She is comfortable on point because she needs nothing to function, and comfortable as an anchor because Flex On 'Em gives an incoming character a defensive option.
Spider-ManThe Guardians pairing that covers both problems: Ms. Marvel holds the ground, Spider-Man punishes anyone who tries to go around it.
Star-LordTwo range characters with different tools. Between projectiles and stretched limbs there is nowhere comfortable to stand.
HulkHer reach makes them hesitate; Hulk's armour punishes the hesitation.
Peni ParkerPeni sets up while Ms. Marvel keeps the opponent at a distance where the gadgets have time to matter.Ms. Marvel is a good anchor for a beginner MARVEL Tōkon team specifically because of Flex On 'Em. An incoming character is at their most vulnerable, and having a dodge that cancels into a Skill means your last character is not helpless on a Grounded Tag-In.

Ms. Marvel How to Play FAQ
Is Ms. Marvel good for beginners in MARVEL Tōkon?
Yes — Ms. Marvel is one of the two best starter characters in MARVEL Tōkon alongside Captain America. Her Skills use simplified single-button inputs rather than three Light/Medium/Heavy variants each, she has only nine command list entries, and her longest-in-the-game normals mean she can play neutral without needing precise spacing. Where Captain America teaches neutral through projectiles, Ms. Marvel teaches it through range.
What does Flex On 'Em do in MARVEL Tōkon?
Flex On 'Em is Ms. Marvel's crouching Unique move. It is a dodge that evades everything except throws, and crucially it cancels into her Unique moves or Skills afterwards. That means a successful dodge does not just give her turn back — it gives it back with an attack already starting, so cancelling into the Karate Chop! overhead is very hard to react to.
How does Ms. Marvel beat zoners in MARVEL Tōkon?
Zoom Knuckle. It is a ranged giant fist that beats projectiles, and the grounded version fires level while the air version angles down. Combined with her extremely long normals, she can contest a projectile wall without needing to close the whole distance. Elasti-Grab also attacks and hauls her forward at once, which covers ground for a character with otherwise poor mobility.
What is Ms. Marvel's mix-up in MARVEL Tōkon?
Two moves, both simple. Karate Chop! leaps up and swings both enlarged hands down as an overhead. Rubber Bind is a grab that squeezes, intended for close-range mix-ups. Neither requires execution, and against an opponent already worried about her long normals the overhead-or-grab guess is genuinely hard to defend.
What beats Ms. Marvel in MARVEL Tōkon?
Anything that skips the ground. Iron Man's Free Flight means he never enters her range at all, and Magik's teleports put her opponent next to her regardless of spacing. Hulk beats her differently — armour walks straight through her pokes and she lacks the damage to win a trading war. Throws also beat Flex On 'Em outright, so a good opponent will start grabbing her.
Where should Ms. Marvel go on a MARVEL Tōkon team?
She works anywhere, but she is an especially good anchor for a beginner team. Flex On 'Em gives an incoming character a defensive option, which matters because a Grounded Tag-In is when your last character is most vulnerable. As an assist she covers an enormous horizontal area, which punishes opponents standing at a range they assumed was safe.
