Quoted from the game's own tutorial log.

Power level

Your power level is determined by the power level of your equipped items. This will effect how powerful you are towards mobs and how much damage they do to you.

Blacksmith

At the Blacksmith you can upgrade the item level of your equipment to your current character level for emeralds, and re-roll effects on your equipment in exchange for Echo Shards.

At level 1, you can re-roll effects on Rare items.

By leveling up the Blacksmith to level 2 using Echo Shards, you unlock the ability to re-roll effects on Special Items.

Leveling up the Blacksmith to level 3 allows you to re-roll effects on Unique Items.

Regular enemies drop Common 50%, Rare 25%, Special 20% and Unique 5% of the time; bosses skip Common entirely and hit Unique 16.7% of the time. Rarity sets the number of random effects (Rare 1, Special 2) and the item's power offset; an item never carries more than 4 effects. There are 80 weapons, 152 armor pieces, 40 artifacts and 24 talismans to collect.

Gear & rarity FAQ

What are the rarities in Minecraft Dungeons II?

Four: Common, Rare, Special and Unique. From regular enemies they drop 50%, 25%, 20% and 5% of the time.

Does rarity make gear stronger?

Yes, mainly through effects: Rare items roll 1 random effect and Special 2, and each rarity shifts item power slightly. Base damage and combos stay the same.

Do bosses drop better loot?

Yes. Bosses never drop Common items and roll Unique 16.7% of the time, versus 5% from regular enemies.

What are archetypes?

Playstyle tags on gear: Fighter, Mage, Ranger, Summoner, Support, Tank, Trickster, Utility. They decide which effect pools an item rolls from, so matching archetypes across your gear focuses your bonuses.

What are the player's base stats?

100 health, a 2.5 s roll cooldown, ×1.5 critical damage, a 20 s health-potion cooldown and 100 soul capacity, before gear and enchantments.
