Tanks, damage and healers

Gladiator and Templar can take the tank role, and Cleric and Chanter are the classes that heal. Every other class is built for damage.

Both factions can play every class, and your class does not lock your faction.

AION 2 has 8 classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, and Chanter. Pick by role first: Gladiator and Templar hold aggro, Cleric and Chanter keep the party alive, and the rest focus on damage. Every class has 35 skills and five Daevanion boards, so what really changes is the weapon, the range and how each skill scales.
