AION 2 Stigma Guide: Slots, Shards and Best Stigmas
AION 2 Stigma guide: how to unlock Stigma at level 22, all 4 slots, shard costs to level 20, where to farm Stigma Shards and the best Stigmas per class.
AION 2 Stigma skills are where your build actually starts. Every class gets 13 of them on top of its regular skills, but you can only register a handful at a time, and leveling them eats a currency that is slow to farm. Pick well and your class plays the way you want. Pick badly and you have spent 75 Stigma Shards on a skill you never press.
Everything in this guide comes from the global client files (2.0.3.0): the level table that controls Stigma slots, the skill acquisition table that prices every Stigma level, the shop and reward tables that hand out Stigma Shards, and the game's own tutorial text. Where a popular claim does not match the data, we say so.
What are Stigma skills in AION 2?
In AION 2, Stigma are a separate tab of 13 class skills that open at level 22 and level up with Stigma Shard points instead of skill points. The in-game guide describes them as "powerful, class-specific abilities" and tells you to "choose appropriate Stigma Skills and switch between them, depending on the situation, such as PvP and boss fights". You learn the skills in the Skills window, register the ones you want, and level them with shards.
Each class's Stigma list mixes big cooldown nukes, crowd control, personal defensives and party buffs. You can browse every one on the AION 2 skill database or on each class page.
- Stigma skills live under Skills, then the Stigma tab.
- A Stigma only works once it is registered to one of the Stigma quickslots. The default keybind labels call them Quick Use 9 to 12.
- You cannot equip or swap Stigmas in combat, and you cannot change skill presets while a Stigma skill is on cooldown.
- Every class has one "Assault" Stigma on a 120-second cooldown that hits up to 4 targets and raises your Defense by up to 20% based on how many it hits.
How to unlock Stigma in AION 2
Stigma are tied to the story, not just your level. Every Stigma skill requires character level 22, and its first level also requires your third Ascension. That Ascension comes from an Ascension quest with a recommended level of 22.
- 1Reach level 22
Every row in the Stigma acquisition table requires character level 22. Below that, the tab stays locked.
- 2Finish the third Ascension quest
Complete The One Who Hears the Voice (Elyos) or The One Who Hears the Voice (Asmodians). It raises you to the third Ascension, which the Stigma tab requires.
- 3Collect the Ascension reward
The third Ascension reward gives every class new wings and 1 Stigma Shard, which is exactly enough to learn your first Stigma at level 1.
- 4Learn a Stigma skill
Open Skills, then Stigma, select a skill and acquire it. Level 1 costs 1 Stigma Shard point.
- 5Register it to a Stigma slot
Equip the acquired Stigma, then register it to a Stigma quickslot. At level 22 you have one slot.
How many Stigma slots does AION 2 have?
AION 2 has 4 Stigma slots. The number of Stigma skills you can register is set per character level in the client's level table, which caps at 4 at level 37 and stays there through the end of the table. That matches the four Stigma quickslot actions in the input settings. Some guides list six Stigma slots, but the global client data does not support that.
| Character level | Stigma slots | Stigma Shard points from leveling (total) |
|---|---|---|
| 22 | 1 | 0 (the Ascension reward covers your first point) |
| 27 | 2 | 5 |
| 32 | 3 | 10 |
| 37 | 4 | 15 |
| 40 | 4 | 19 |
| 45 | 4 | 29 |
| 46+ | 4 | Up 1 per level, plus 1 Superior Stigma Shard point per level |
Leveling grants 1 Stigma Shard point per level from level 23 to 39 and 2 per level from 40 to 45, then 1 per level again. From level 46 each level also adds 1 Superior Stigma Shard point. The level-up message reads "Stigma slot x{n} unlocked" when a new slot opens.
How many Stigma Shards do you need?
Every one of the 104 Stigma skills uses the same price curve. Levels 1 to 20 are paid in Stigma Shard points, and the cost doubles every five levels. The skill pages list Stigma skills up to level 25. The acquisition table only prices levels 1 to 20, and the in-game tutorial says that "from Level 20 onward, Stigma Skills require Superior Stigma Shards to level up".
| Stigma level | Shards per level | Shards for the band | Running total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 | 1 | 5 | 5 |
| 6 to 10 | 2 | 10 | 15 |
| 11 to 15 | 4 | 20 | 35 |
| 16 to 20 | 8 | 40 | 75 |
So one Stigma at level 20 costs 75 points, and a full loadout of 4 at level 20 costs 300. Leveling gives you 29 points by level 45, plus the 1 from your Ascension reward. That is enough for four Stigmas at level 5 and one of them pushed to level 10, and no more. The rest has to come from shops, achievements and rewards. That is why your first choices matter: levels 1 to 5 are cheap (5 points) and unlock the first specialization, while the last five levels cost more than the first fifteen combined.
How to get Stigma Shards in AION 2
A Stigma Shard (Bound) grants 1 Stigma Shard point when you pick it up. The in-game guide says Stigma Shards "can be purchased and obtained from the Abyss Shop or by completing Regional Quests". The full list from the client tables is longer:
| Source | What you get | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Character levels | 1 point per level from 23 (2 per level at 40 to 45) | Automatic, counted separately from the voucher cap |
| Third Ascension reward | 1 Stigma Shard | Arrives with your Ascension wings |
| Abyss Shop | Stigma Shards for Abyss Points | Four price steps of 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 and 25,000 Abyss Points, 50 shards per step per character |
| Nightmare Shop | Stigma Shards for 1,500 Phantasmal Fragments each | Limit of 35 per character |
| Shugo Festival Shop | Stigma Shards for 300 Centuryroot Tokens each | Limit of 35 per character |
| Arena and battlefield trade shops | Stigma Shards | Listed as coin-shop sources for the item |
| Achievements | 2 Stigma Shards per milestone | Paid at several achievement steps |
| Battle pass | Stigma Shards | Listed as a battle pass reward |
| Unstable Stigma Shards | Crafted into Stigma Shards | Through Substance Morph (see below) |
The Unstable Stigma Shard (Bound) is a fragment that you turn into a full Stigma Shard through Substance Morph. The client's reward packages include Unstable Stigma Shards in party dungeon rewards (normal and hard) and in some treasure boxes, so running dungeons quietly feeds your Stigma levels too.
The Superior Stigma Shard (Bound) is a separate currency. According to the in-game tutorial, it comes from level-up rewards (the level table starts granting it at level 46), and every Stigma skill you raise to level 20 grants 1 Superior Stigma Shard.
Stigma specializations: what levels 5, 10, 15 and 20 unlock
Every Stigma skill has four specializations that switch on automatically as the skill levels: one each at Stigma level 5, 10, 15 and 20. Each skill page also lists a fifth variant with no level requirement. Unlike regular skills, you do not slot these by hand. Reaching the level is enough. This is the real payoff of leveling a Stigma, often bigger than the extra base damage.
| Stigma level | Specialization |
|---|---|
| 5 | Up to +20% damage when more targets are hit |
| 10 | Reduces Attack by 20% for 5s |
| 15 | Deals damage 1 additional time |
| 20 | +25% Knockdown chance |
Read the level-15 and level-20 lines before you commit shards to a skill. Some turn a skill into something else entirely: a single-target skill becomes an AoE, a cooldown drops by 30 seconds, or a stationary cast becomes castable while moving.
Best Stigma per class: core AION 2 Stigma builds
These are our recommended core 4 for each class, chosen from skill data: cooldown, number of targets, crowd control and the Attack coefficient on each hit (damage figures are at Stigma level 1). PvP swap: Barrier Spell, which keeps your party's HP from falling below 10% for 3 seconds.
Stigma leveling tips
- Take every Stigma you plan to keep to level 5 first. It costs 5 points and unlocks the first specialization.
- Push your main damage or support Stigma to 10 and 15 before the others. The 4-point and 8-point bands are where shards run out.
- Use the Special Growth Voucher before you buy shards with Abyss Points, so you do not waste the 180-point top-up.
- Abyss Shop prices step up from 10,000 to 25,000 Abyss Points per shard, so the first 50 shards are by far the best value.
- Swap Stigmas between pulls, not mid-fight. The client blocks swaps in combat.
- Stigma skills do not get extra levels from Daevanion nodes. The Daevanion boards only raise active and passive skills, so plan your Daevanion paths separately.
Once your 4 Stigmas are at level 20, Superior Stigma Shards become the bottleneck, and that is late-game progression. Our AION 2 endgame guide covers the content that feeds it, and every class page, from the Gladiator, Templar, Assassin and Ranger to the Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter, lists all 13 Stigma skills with every specialization.
