Krao Research Report I. Introduction No other organization on Atreia has accomplished more in the field of life modification than the Lepharists. As a senior researcher, I am pleased to have contributed to the work of the Lepharists over the centuries. I dedicate this work to the great Lephar himself, and to the current head of our order. II. About Krao - Krao is a transparent, high-strength mineral formed deep below the crust under ultra-high pressure, and relatively easy to obtain due to its abundant reserves.- Krao was mainly used as a raw material for forging armor and was not utilized as a precious metal or for other kinds of crafting. It was not until 200 years, with the discovery of Red Krao, that it started being recognized for its special properties. - 200 years ago, following the establishment of a Drana cultivation complex in Verteron by the Ishtar Legion, soil exposed to Drana began to undergo metamorphic reactions. - Red Krao discovered in the Drana Fields was found to be capable of deflecting impacts entirely rather than absorbing them. - Some Lepharist researchers (hereafter referred to as Krao Researchers) have set up laboratories in natural caves where Krao veins are found, and continue to study the new mutations. III. Overview of Krao Experiments - Research into ancient mutant life has been successful in finding methods of cutting off an organism from the Odyle cycle in order to enhance its inherent unique abilities. - Krao Researchers have undertaken mutant adaptation experiments in which they gradually increase the content of Drana under conditions of extreme Odyle deprivation. In nature, Daeva exposed to Drana for long periods of time are able to adapt without dying. - In light of this, the researchers conducted a series of experiments, starting with Krao transplants and ending with direct Drana infusions. IV. Classification of Krao Test Subjects - Experiment (Phase 1) After the adaptation period following the implantation of Krao crystals, the skin's strength increased and granulation occurred at the extremities of the body. The mutant maintains an appearance similar to the human form that served as its mold, while gaining a magnetic field and aerial movement capabilities. However, it retains little cognitive ability, and is therefore incapable of being taught. - Experiment (Phase 2) While essentially the same as Phase 1, rejections that occurred after gene transplantation between other organisms were significantly reduced. Body enhancement experiments were accelerated by transplanting parts from different organisms, and the number of subjects that maintained a stable half-human appearance increased. Though higher cognitive abilities were present compared to Phase 1, they were merely fragmented conscious responses, and most significantly, dissociative personalities were widely observed. Some subjects were also observed referring the themselves with the plural "we". This phenomenon is discussed further in the Berk entry. V. Berk Berk is defined as a metallic weapon based on an organic organism. Krao experimental subjects are fully crystallized, with the enhanced skin tissue within their human body repeatedly undergoing division and synthesis. Those Krao who go through the repeated destruction and growth of their own Krao particles are classified as Berk. These Berks can move along an orbit in a configuration that encircles a Krao Orb core. Reaction experiments revealed that, despite being inorganic, neuroactive substances are transmitted to the Krao particles. Berks utilize surrounding Krao minerals to generate enough thermal energy per individual to match a small nuclear reactor. They are also the only test subjects to exhibit high levels of intelligence and are expected to be viable as anti-personnel weapons when equipped with guidance devices. However, they too have been observed to exhibit multiple personalities, and will therefore require careful management.
