Today, I will explain the difference between the often confused concepts of Fafnite and Fafnium. What is Fafnite? Fafnite is a blue gemstone found in the Gribade Highlands of Altgard. It is a metamorphic rock formed long ago under the intense heat and pressure of the Gribade volcanic field. Its naturally deep blue color has made it highly prized as a gemstone. Mining began in earnest about 180 years ago after it drew the attention of Dragon Lord Fafnir. Today, its trade is a major source of income for the Shulak of the Gribade region. Strictly speaking, it is technically incorrect to call this blue gemstone "Fafnite" unless it has been imbued with a soul through the beautiful and intricate process made possible only by the power of Dragon Lord Fafnir. However, over time, the name "Fafnite" has come to refer to the gemstone regardless of whether it contains a soul. What is Fafnium? Fafnium is a device that allows anyone to imbue Fafnite with a soul, replicating the power once exclusive to Dragon Lord Fafnir. When properly installed and activated, a Fafnium device absorbs the souls of nearby humans or Daeva. Fafnium devices exist in many sizes, ranging from compact mechanisms suitable for concealed traps to massive installations capable of harvesting every soul within a wide area. Activating Fafnite and Fafnium A single Fafnium device can absorb multiple souls, making it a devastating weapon of mass destruction. If a particularly strong-willed Daeva resists the effects of Fafnium, simply rendering them unconscious is usually sufficient. Once imbued, Fafnite serves as a medium through which the abilities of the captured soul can be harnessed. Worn as an accessory or fused directly into the body, it can enhance physical abilities or grant access to the original owner's powers. However, Fafnite contains the power of Fafnir himself. Never attempt to wield that power recklessly. Those who fail to master it risk horrific bodily mutations, or worse, having their very bodies consumed and taken over by the Fafnite.
