How to Enchant in Minecraft Dungeons 2
How enchanting works in Minecraft Dungeons II: the Enchantsmith, Enchantment Points, Echo Shards, full cost table, where every book drops and the best picks.
Enchanting in Minecraft Dungeons II works nothing like the first game. Items no longer drop with a random set of enchantments you have to live with. Instead you collect enchantment books, keep them forever, and stamp them onto your gear at an Enchantsmith using two currencies: Enchantment Points and Echo Shards. Once you understand those three pieces, enchanting stops being a gamble and becomes a planning decision.
This guide explains how the system works, what every enchantment costs, where each of the 32 books comes from, and which enchantments have the strongest numbers. All values come from the game's own files (build 1.1.1.0) and its in-game tutorial log, the same data behind our enchantments database. Where we calculated something from the raw tables, we say so.

How does enchanting work in Minecraft Dungeons 2?
The Enchantsmith's own tutorial text sums up the loop: you enchant and improve items using the enchantment books you've collected, you can use the same book on multiple items, and if you disenchant an item your Enchantment Points are refunded. Salvaging an enchanted item refunds them as well.
- 1Collect an enchantment book
Books come from quests, Dungeons and Rifts, and from area loot. Picking one up adds it to your personal library permanently. Your first three come from the quest Training with the Enchantsmith in Howling Woods.
- 2Find an Enchantsmith
There are five Enchantsmiths across four settlements: Brave Haven, Howling Woods (two), Rainy Plains and Frozen Highlands. You can teleport to Brave Haven from anywhere. See them all on the merchants page.
- 3Pick the item
Enchantments go on your melee weapon, your ranged weapon and your four armor pieces. Each enchantment only fits certain slots: a melee "wave" enchantment will not show up for a bow.
- 4Choose the book and pay
The cost depends on the item's rarity and the enchantment level. You pay Enchantment Points plus Echo Shards.
- 5Upgrade it later
Once the Enchantsmith is levelled up with Echo Shards, you can raise enchantments you already applied to level II and III for more Echo Shards and Enchantment Points.
How much does it cost to enchant? (Enchantment Points and Echo Shards)
The game's enchant cost table has one row per item rarity. Level I costs a base number of points, and each higher level costs more than the one before. Rarer items cost more to enchant, which is the trade-off for their extra effects and higher item power.
| Item rarity | Level I | Level II (total) | Level III (total) | Echo Shards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 1 | 3 | 6 | 1 |
| Rare | 1 | 4 | 9 | 1 |
| Special | 2 | 6 | 12 | 1 |
| Unique | 3 | 8 | 15 | 1 |
How we read the table: Common items start at 1 point and add 1 more per level (1, then 2, then 3, for a running total of 6 at level III). Rare items start at 1 and add 2 per level, Special items start at 2 and add 2, and Unique items start at 3 and add 2. The base Echo Shard cost is 1 in every row, with no per-level Echo Shard increase listed. The per-level totals are our calculation; the base values are the game's.
Every enchantment in Minecraft Dungeons 2 (with level values)
There are 34 enchantments in the game files. 32 have books you can collect, and two, Primed Enchantment and Ichor Blast, only exist as the fixed effect of a Unique weapon. Here is every one, grouped by the slot it fits, with its level I, II and III values.
Melee weapon enchantments
Most melee enchantments create a wave that fires on your combo's final hit and on jump attacks. The wave deals a percentage of your weapon damage and applies an element. Pick them on the melee weapon you hit hardest with.
| Enchantment | Effect | I / II / III |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning Surge | Wave that zaps mobs: weaker but faster | 60% / 75% / 90% weapon damage |
| Soul Blast | Wave plus soul damage over time | 50% / 60% / 75% weapon damage |
| Fire Aspect | Wave that sets mobs on fire | 35% / 45% / 50% weapon damage |
| Poison Fog | Wave that poisons mobs | 10% / 20% / 30% weapon damage |
| Frost Crescent | Wave that freezes (slows attacks and movement) | 10% / 15% / 20% weapon damage |
| Shockwave | Shockwave with extra knockback | 20% / 35% / 50% damage, +25% / 50% / 75% knockback |
| Crash Landing | Jump-attack landings hit harder | +5% damage, +25% / 75% / 100% knockback |
| Primed Enchantment | Jump attacks create lightning and ice waves | Unique-only (Prime Enchanter's Gauntlets) |
| Ichor Blast | Wave with 90% weapon damage plus soul damage | Unique-only (Spectral Spear) |
Melee and ranged weapon enchantments
| Enchantment | Effect | I / II / III |
|---|---|---|
| Swirling | Swirl hits nearby enemies for extra damage | 50% / 75% / 100% weapon damage |
| Thundering | Chance for damage to spread as lightning | 25% chance for 15% / 33% for 30% / 50% for 50% |
| Ender Mines | Attacks deploy mines | 2 / 3 / 4 mines |
| Healing Smite | Kills can create a Regenerating well | 20% / 35% / 50% chance |
| Shielding Smite | Kills can create a Fortifying well | 10% / 20% / 40% chance |
| Tempo Theft | Kills can grant movement speed | 30% / 40% / 50% chance |
| Shadowcloak | Kills can grant Shadowcloaking | 15% / 20% / 35% chance |
Ranged weapon enchantments
| Enchantment | Effect | I / II / III |
|---|---|---|
| Chain Reaction | Projectiles can split into more projectiles | 20% for 4 / 30% for 6 / 40% for 8 |
| Piercing | Projectiles pierce enemies | 1 / 3 / 5 enemies |
| Ricochet | Projectiles bounce | 1 / 2 / 3 bounces |
Armor enchantments
Armor enchantments are where most of the build-defining effects live. They trigger on rolls, artifact use or potions rather than on hits.
| Enchantment | Effect | I / II / III |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamo | Rolling amplifies your next attack | 20% / 30% / 40% |
| Power Amplifier | Artifact use amplifies your next attack | 20% / 30% / 40% |
| Health Synergy | Artifact use heals you | 15% / 25% / 35% of max health |
| Artifact Amplifier | Artifact use boosts artifact cooldown and damage | 6 / 7.5 / 9 seconds |
| Springload | Artifact use grants Hurrying (movement speed) | 4 / 5 / 6 seconds |
| Gravity Pulse | Artifact use pulls enemies in | 5 blocks at every level |
| Somersault | Extra rolls | +1 / +2 / +3 rolls |
| Cow Stampede | Rolling into enemies damages and knocks them back | Same text at every level |
| Tumbleshot | Rolling fires a barrage of arrows at nearby enemies | Same text at every level |
| Bottomless Brew | Extra health potions | +1 / +2 / +3 potions |
| Buddy Brew | Potions create a Regenerating well | 2 / 4 / 6 seconds |
| Barrier Brew | Potions create a Fortifying well | 2 / 4 / 6 seconds |
| Ancient Alchemy | Potions grant souls | 30 / 45 / 60 souls |
| Ender Quiver | Extra arrows | +2 / +3 / +4 arrows |
| Critical Quiver | Critical hits restore arrows | 1 / 3 / 5 arrows |
Every enchantment has its own page with the full text, the items that can carry it and the Unique items that come with it built in. Start from the enchantments list.
Where do you get enchantment books in Minecraft Dungeons 2?
The in-game guide says books come from completing quests and exploring Dungeons and Rifts. The loot tables are more specific: books are split into one shared pool and three regional pools, plus a few quest rewards.
| Source | Books | Odds per book drop |
|---|---|---|
| Any area (shared pool) | Fire Aspect, Poison Fog, Frost Crescent, Lightning Surge, Crash Landing, Buddy Brew, Cow Stampede, Ender Mines, Thundering, Dynamo, Ender Quiver | 1 in 11 |
| The Deep Dark dungeons | Somersault, Shockwave, Tempo Theft, Shadowcloak, Springload, Ricochet | 1 in 6 |
| Ravines | Soul Blast, Artifact Amplifier, Gravity Pulse, Health Synergy, Bottomless Brew, Chain Reaction | 1 in 6 |
| The Sift | Swirling, Barrier Brew, Power Amplifier, Shielding Smite, Critical Quiver, Tumbleshot | 1 in 6 |
| Quest: Training with the Enchantsmith | Piercing, Healing Smite, Ancient Alchemy | Quest reward |
| Unique items only | Primed Enchantment, Ichor Blast | No book |
So if you want Dynamo or Lightning Surge, any area can give it. If you want Health Synergy or Chain Reaction, you need to be in the Ravines. Swirling, Power Amplifier and Tumbleshot only come from The Sift, and Shadowcloak, Somersault and Ricochet from the dungeons of The Deep Dark.
Enchantsmith vs Blacksmith: which one do you need?
- Applies books from your library to weapons and armor
- Costs Enchantment Points plus Echo Shards
- Levelling it up with Echo Shards unlocks enchantment upgrades
- Disenchanting refunds your points
- Raises an item to your current character level for emeralds
- Re-rolls item effects (not enchantments) for Echo Shards
- Level 1 re-rolls Rare items, level 2 Special, level 3 Unique
- Rarer items cost more emeralds to upgrade
VerdictUse the Enchantsmith to choose what your gear does, and the Blacksmith to keep that gear at your level and fix bad effect rolls. Both run on Echo Shards, which is why the 100-shard cap matters so much.
The level 15 vendor upgrade
At player level 15 you can upgrade the Brave Haven vendors for the first time. It costs 300 emeralds, 50 Echo Shards and 4 enchantment books, and raises the Merchant and the Enchantsmith to level 2. Plan for it: 50 Echo Shards is half your carrying cap, so start saving a few levels early. The progression page lists the requirements.
What are the best enchantments in Minecraft Dungeons 2?
There is no settled meta yet, so these picks are reasoned from the numbers, not from win rates. The rule of thumb: at level III, look for enchantments that either scale with your weapon's damage or trigger on something you do constantly.
Best melee enchantments
- Lightning Surge has the biggest wave in the game at 90% of weapon damage at level III. The zap makes mobs weaker but also faster, so it suits builds that kill quickly.
- Soul Blast deals 75% at level III plus soul damage over time, with no speed trade-off. Its book comes from the Ravines.
- Swirling adds 100% of weapon damage to nearby enemies at level III and also fires on projectiles, so it works on either weapon.
- Thundering triggers on any hit rather than the final hit: a 50% chance to spread 50% of the damage at level III.
Best ranged enchantments
- Chain Reaction gives each projectile a 40% chance to spawn 8 more at level III, the strongest crowd option for bows.
- Piercing (5 enemies at level III) is free from the tutorial quest and makes lines of mobs trivial.
- Ricochet (3 bounces) is the pick for scattered enemies where piercing has nothing to line up.
Best armor enchantments
- Dynamo amplifies your next attack by 40% at level III every time you roll, and it drops from any area.
- Power Amplifier does the same on artifact use, a natural fit for artifact builds.
- Health Synergy heals 35% of your max health per artifact use at level III, one of the strongest sustain effects in the game.
- Bottomless Brew (+3 potions) and Somersault (+3 rolls) are simple, always-useful defensive picks.
Enchantment synergies: build around one trigger
Enchantments share triggers, and stacking several on the same trigger is how builds come together. Our database groups them by what makes them fire:
| Trigger | Enchantments |
|---|---|
| Final hit and jump attack (waves) | Fire Aspect, Poison Fog, Shockwave, Frost Crescent, Lightning Surge, Soul Blast, Crash Landing |
| Defeating an enemy | Healing Smite, Shielding Smite, Tempo Theft, Shadowcloak |
| Rolling | Dynamo, Somersault, Cow Stampede, Tumbleshot |
| Using an artifact | Power Amplifier, Health Synergy, Artifact Amplifier, Springload, Gravity Pulse |
| Drinking a potion | Bottomless Brew, Buddy Brew, Barrier Brew, Ancient Alchemy |
| Projectiles | Chain Reaction, Piercing, Ricochet, Ender Quiver, Swirling, Ender Mines, Tumbleshot |
- Roll build: Somersault gives you up to three extra rolls, and every roll feeds Dynamo's 40% amplification. Pair it with the Armadillo Amulet talisman (up to 45% shorter roll cooldown) or Rascal's Razor (40% shorter roll cooldown).
- Artifact build: Power Amplifier, Health Synergy and Artifact Amplifier all fire on artifact use. Essence of Efficiency cuts artifact cooldowns by up to 14%, so you trigger them more often.
- Potion build: Bottomless Brew for more potions, then Ancient Alchemy (up to 60 souls per potion) to fuel artifacts. Glowstone Flask shortens the potion cooldown by up to 25%.

Common enchanting mistakes
- Enchanting your current gear right away (points come back on disenchant)
- Farming a regional pool when you need one of its six books
- Saving level III upgrades for Special and Unique pieces you will keep
- Stacking enchantments that share a trigger
- Hoarding Enchantment Points for a future build
- Entering a Rift or Soul Storm near the 100 Echo Shard cap
- Putting level III on a Common item you will replace in five levels
- Mixing roll, artifact and potion triggers with nothing to fuel them
- Finish Training with the Enchantsmith for Piercing, Healing Smite and Ancient Alchemy
- Enchant every weapon and armor slot at level I as soon as you have points
- Save 50 Echo Shards, 300 emeralds and 4 books for the level 15 vendor upgrade
- Visit the Ravines, The Sift and The Deep Dark dungeons for their regional books
- Re-check your enchantments every time you replace a piece of gear
