Best Builds in Minecraft Dungeons 2
The best Minecraft Dungeons II builds from game data: top weapons by measured DPS, plus armor sets, artifacts, talismans and enchantments for 5 playstyles.
Minecraft Dungeons II launched with 80 weapons, 38 armor sets, 40 artifacts, 24 talismans and 34 enchantments, and every one of them fills one of your 12 gear slots. That is a lot of combinations, and on launch day nobody has a proven meta yet. What we do have is the game's own numbers: exact attack timings, damage per shot, soul costs, cooldowns and talisman values, pulled from the game files (build 1.1.1.0).
This guide turns those numbers into five starting builds, one for each common playstyle: melee damage, ranged, companions, tank and soul caster. Each one names a weapon with its measured DPS, an armor set with its real piece effects, three artifacts, three talismans and the enchantments that trigger off the same actions. Treat them as data-backed starting points rather than a finished meta, and tune them in the build planner.
How we rank the best weapons in Minecraft Dungeons 2
Every weapon ranking on MetaBot uses one stated metric, so you can check it. Melee weapons are ranked on chained single-target DPS: the total damage of a full combo divided by how long the combo takes, using exact attack timings from the game's animation data. They are compared only within their weight class (light, medium, heavy), because a heavy weapon trades speed for stagger and reach. Ranged weapons are ranked on burst DPS: the damage of one shot (every projectile included) divided by the seconds between shots, compared within bows or crossbows.
Tiers are relative to the best weapon in the same class: S is 90% or more of the class leader, A is 80–90%, B 70–80%, C 60–70% and D below 60%. Two weapons, the Short Spear and the Spectral Spear, are left unranked because their attack timings in the files are not exact. Full tables are on the melee tier list and ranged tier list, and the maths is on our methodology page.
Best weapons in Minecraft Dungeons 2 by class
| Class | Best weapon | DPS | Runner-up | DPS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light melee | Twilight Dagger | 51.9 | Sculker's Bane (Unique) | 51.7 |
| Medium melee | Pride of the Plains (Unique) | 51.1 | Riftslasher | 49.7 |
| Heavy melee | War Hammer | 41.6 | Heartbreaker (Unique) | 41.6 |
| Gauntlets | Gauntlets | 39.5 | Prime Enchanter's Gauntlets (Unique) | 35.3 |
| Bow | Greatbow | 180 | Humbler Heartstring (Unique) | 180 |
| Crossbow | Heavy Crossbow | 113.7 | The Close Ranger (Unique) | 113.7 |
A Unique weapon shares its base weapon's attack pattern and adds one fixed effect, so its DPS usually matches or sits just below the base. Pride of the Plains is the Unique Riftslasher, and its effect (melee attacks deal 40% more damage to primary targets) is not included in the 51.1 figure, which makes it the strongest single-target melee weapon in practice. Heartbreaker matches the War Hammer at 41.6 DPS and makes its hits explode on impact.
- 72 damage per shot, 0.4 seconds between shots
- 10 ammo, recharging every 1.2 seconds
- Best burst in the game, but it empties in about 4 seconds
- 108 damage per shot, 0.95 seconds between shots
- 8 ammo, recharging every 2 seconds
- Slower, heavier hits that last longer before you run dry
VerdictTake the Greatbow for boss burst windows and the Heavy Crossbow if you fire continuously. Burst DPS ignores ammo, so either one wants ammo support (see the ranged build). Full side-by-sides: bow vs crossbow and Heavy Crossbow vs Scatter Crossbow.

Best melee DPS build
This is the build for players who want bosses to melt. It stacks raw melee damage, critical hits and the extra damage the game gives jump attacks. Critical hits deal 1.5x damage by default, which is why the armor leans on crit.
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Melee | Pride of the Plains (or Twilight Dagger) | 51.1 DPS with +40% damage to primary targets; the dagger is 51.9 DPS in the light class |
| Ranged | Heavy Crossbow | 113.7 burst DPS for targets you cannot reach |
| Armor | Twisted Warden set | +25% melee crit chance (boots), +45% melee crit damage (helmet), 20% melee evade (chest) |
| Artifacts | Warrior Drums, Death Cap Mushroom, Grindstone | Crit and attack-speed buffs on short cooldowns |
| Talismans | Fist of Iron, Ocelot's Paw, Sigil of Beeswax | Melee +10–35%, jump attacks +10–35%, max health +20–35% |
| Enchantments | Lightning Surge (melee), Dynamo and Power Amplifier (armor) | Big wave damage plus amplified next hits after rolls and artifacts |
The Twisted Warden set is the cleanest crit set in the game: its helmet makes melee critical hits deal 45% more damage, its boots add 25% melee crit chance, its chest gives a 20% chance to evade melee damage and its leggings make Shadowcloaking last 45% longer. Warrior Drums (45 souls, 5-second cooldown) doubles critical hit damage while active, so the set and the artifact multiply each other. Death Cap Mushroom (20 souls, 4 seconds) raises movement and attack speed, and Grindstone (30 souls, 4 seconds) sharpens your weapon for extra damage.
For talismans, Fist of Iron adds 10%, 20% and then 35% melee damage as it levels, and Ocelot's Paw does the same for jumping melee attacks. Jump attacks already hit wider and stagger more, so this build opens every fight with one. Sigil of Beeswax keeps you alive while you learn the bosses.
On the weapon, Lightning Surge fires a wave on your final combo hit and on jump attacks that deals 60%, 75% or 90% of weapon damage by level. It also zaps enemies, making them weaker but faster, so if speed bothers you, Fire Aspect (35%, 45%, 50%) is the steadier alternative. On armor, Dynamo gives your next attack 20–40% damage amplification after a roll, and Power Amplifier does the same (20–40%) after an artifact.
Best ranged build
Ranged players get the biggest raw numbers in the game, capped by ammo. This build is about keeping your quiver full, so the Greatbow's 180 burst DPS actually turns into sustained damage.
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ranged | Greatbow or Humbler Heartstring | 180 burst DPS; the Unique pierces up to 10 enemies |
| Melee | Hunter's Hatchet | 36.1 DPS and reduces ranged ammo cooldown by 35% |
| Armor | Sharpshooter set | +30% ranged damage, -35% ammo cooldown, +45% ammo, 60% chance for extra projectiles |
| Artifacts | Flaming Quiver, Firework Arrow, Tempo Truffle | Empowered arrows plus speed for kiting |
| Talismans | Amethyst Lens, Twig of Dark Oak, Armadillo Amulet | Ranged +10–25%, ammo +20–60%, roll cooldown -20–45% |
| Enchantments | Chain Reaction (ranged), Ender Quiver and Critical Quiver (armor) | Extra projectiles and arrow refunds |
The Sharpshooter set reads like it was built for this: the chest makes ranged attacks deal 30% more damage, the leggings cut ammo cooldown by 35%, the boots let you carry 45% more ammo and the helmet gives a 60% chance to fire additional projectiles. Add Twig of Dark Oak (20%, 40%, then 60% more ammo) and Hunter's Hatchet in your melee slot for another 35% faster ammo recovery, and the Greatbow's 10-shot magazine lasts far longer. Amethyst Lens adds 10%, 15% and 25% ranged damage.
The quiver artifacts, like Flaming Quiver and Firework Arrow, cost 20 souls each on a 5-second cooldown, so you can keep them up almost constantly. Tempo Truffle (20 souls, 5 seconds) gives movement speed for repositioning.
For enchantments, Chain Reaction gives each projectile a 20%, 30% or 40% chance to spawn 4, 6 or 8 more projectiles. Piercing (1, 3, then 5 enemies) is the easier pick for corridors. On armor, Ender Quiver adds 2–4 arrows and Critical Quiver makes critical hits restore 1, 3 or 5 arrows. Tumbleshot fires a barrage of arrows every time you roll, which pairs well with Armadillo Amulet's shorter roll cooldown.
Best companion build
Five talismans summon a fighting companion, and each one returns 30 seconds after it is defeated. The companion build fills talisman slots with them and uses armor that makes them hit harder and survive longer.
| Talisman | Companion | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Tasty Bone | Wolf | Quest: The Silence in Little Howl |
| Golem Kit | Iron Golem | Quest: The Final Souldown |
| Prickle's Mark | Prickle | Quest: A Friend till the End |
| Wobblestone | Wobble | Quest: Wobble Run |
| Wonderful Wheat | Llama | Guaranteed drop from the Mosstrosity |
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Talismans | Golem Kit, Tasty Bone, Prickle's Mark | Three companions fighting at once |
| Armor | Fly Agaric set | Companions deal 40% more damage (legs) and take 20% less (boots) |
| Melee | Sculker Claws or Double Sickles | 44.0 and 42.6 DPS with 180-degree sweeps |
| Ranged | Harp Crossbow | 90 burst DPS and a 60% chance to fire additional projectiles |
| Artifacts | Honey Dipper, Battle Banner, Totem of Regeneration | Bee allies, a strength banner and group healing |
| Enchantments | Healing Smite (weapons), Buddy Brew (armor) | Healing wells for allies |
The Fly Agaric set carries the two companion stats that matter: its leggings make companions deal 40% more damage and its boots make them take 20% less. If you prefer a lighter set, the Packleader set also has a 40% companion damage chest, and its leggings bring defeated companions back 20% faster.
Golem Kit is the endgame pick since it comes from the final story quest, while Tasty Bone is available in Howling Woods and carries you through the early game. Honey Dipper (45 souls, 15 seconds) traps enemies and brings bees into the fight, Battle Banner (45 souls, 10 seconds) grants strength to you and nearby allies, and Totem of Regeneration (65 souls, 27 seconds) heals everyone standing near it.
Best tank build
The tank build stacks damage reduction, healing and crowd control so you can stand in the middle of a Soul Storm. Its armor set is a guaranteed story reward, which makes it the easiest endgame set to finish.
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Melee | Heartbreaker or War Hammer | 41.6 DPS, top of the heavy class; Heartbreaker hits explode |
| Armor | Humbler set | 25% less damage taken, +40% healing received, 20% melee evade |
| Artifacts | Warding Chimes, Echo Ocarina, Totem of Shielding | Invulnerability, projectile deflection and a projectile shield |
| Talismans | Sigil of Beeswax, Healing Heart, Glowstone Flask | Max health, out-of-combat regen and faster potions |
| Enchantments | Shockwave (melee), Health Synergy and Bottomless Brew (armor) | Knockback, artifact healing and extra potions |
The Humbler set is the first-completion reward for The Final Souldown, so every player who finishes the story gets all four pieces. Its helmet reduces all damage taken by 25%, its chest increases healing received by 40%, its leggings make melee attacks deal 50% more damage to secondary targets and its boots give a 20% chance to evade melee damage.
Warding Chimes (40 souls, 15-second cooldown) makes you invulnerable for 5 seconds, which is the best emergency button in the game. Echo Ocarina (40 souls, 10 seconds) protects against ranged attacks and Totem of Shielding (30 souls, 15 seconds) blocks projectiles for everyone inside it. Talismans: Sigil of Beeswax (+20% to +35% max health), Healing Heart (1%, 3% then 5% health per second after 5 seconds out of combat) and Glowstone Flask (10–25% shorter potion cooldown).
Health Synergy heals 15%, 25% or 35% of your maximum health every time you use an artifact, which turns three defensive artifacts into three heals. Bottomless Brew adds 1–3 extra health potions and Shockwave knocks enemies back with a wave dealing 20–50% of weapon damage.
Best soul and artifact build
Artifacts are the most flexible damage in the game, and they all run on souls. This build gathers more souls, holds more of them, and cuts cooldowns so an artifact is always ready.
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Armor | Alchemist set | Artifact attacks +25%, +50% soul capacity, 6% heal per artifact use |
| Artifacts | Soul Harvester, Cinder Scepter, Corrupted Beacon | Charged and channelled soul damage |
| Talismans | Twisted Tooth, Soul Chip, Essence of Efficiency | Souls gained +40–140%, soul capacity +15–35%, artifact cooldown -4–14% |
| Melee | Soul Reaper | 32.5 DPS and 60% more souls gained |
| Enchantments | Soul Blast (melee), Artifact Amplifier and Power Amplifier (armor) | Soul damage waves and artifact-triggered buffs |
The Alchemist set gives artifact attacks 25% more damage (chest), 50% more soul capacity (boots), a 6% max-health heal on every artifact activation (leggings) and a 55% larger area for positive status effects (helmet). Twisted Tooth, a reward from Down into the Deep Dark, is the key talisman: souls gained rise by 40%, then 80%, then 140% at level 3. Soul Chip raises soul capacity by 15–35% and Essence of Efficiency cuts artifact cooldowns by 4–14%.
Soul Harvester costs 15 souls on a 5-second cooldown and charges into a burst of soul damage, Cinder Scepter (25 souls, 5 seconds) charges soul-powered fire, and Corrupted Beacon channels souls into a beam for as long as you have souls to spend. Soul Reaper in your melee slot adds another 60% soul gain. Artifact Amplifier improves artifact cooldown and damage for 6, 7.5 or 9 seconds after each use, and Soul Blast turns your melee finishers into waves of 50–75% weapon damage plus soul damage over time.

- Melee DPS: narrow weapons struggle against big crowds
- Ranged: lives and dies by ammo; weak when the quiver is empty
