You braved the Deep Dark and discovered that the Illager High Council had been able to activate one of the ancient portals. After chasing them away and fighting the Supreme Evoker's twisted pet, you rescued the Echo Golem they were holding captive. If the portal is activated again, the Echo Golem can return home to the Sift. However, before they ran off, it seemed like the illagers did something to the machine that powers the portal.
