AION 2 Mount Soul Farming: Best Monsters and Zones for Every Pet
How AION 2 mount souls work, the best monsters and zones to farm all 163 farmable pets at 100% per kill, type bonuses, option slots, Soul Crystals and collection milestones.
In AION 2 almost every mount (the game calls them pets) is unlocked with souls, and souls come from killing the right monster. This guide is the deep dive on soul farming: how many souls a mount needs, which monsters and zones give the most mounts for the least travel, and what your collection feeds into afterwards: type levels, option slots, Soul Crystals and collection milestones. For your first mount, wings and the mount speed myth, start with our mounts and wings guide.
Every number here comes from the global game client, the same data behind our mount list, and is a snapshot as of October 2026.
How mount souls work in AION 2
A soul is an item such as Soul: Papis (Bound), whose text simply reads "Grants a soul". Five of them unlock the mount, and that count is the same for all 207 mounts, from a common Fera to the Black Dragon. Souls reach you in three ways:
- Monster drops: 551 listed monsters drop souls for 163 mounts, always one soul per drop, at 100% per kill in the client's reward tables.
- Pet Soul Chests: the Daeva Pass hands out a Pet Soul Chest for each of the four main types. Each one opens into a random soul of that type, so any specific Fera soul is a 1.54% roll out of 65.
- Duplicate pets: Pet items from Pet Chests, the random shop and other chests grant the whole pet. The item text adds: "If you already own the pet, it will be obtained as a Soul."
The seven Special mounts, including the Black Dragon, have no soul drops at all, and 37 other mounts have no monster source in the current client, so those only come from chests, shops and rewards.
| Type | Mounts | Farmable from monsters | Soul-dropping monsters | Monster levels |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fera | 65 | 53 | 228 | 10–80 |
| Natura | 48 | 37 | 125 | 12–55 |
| Varian | 46 | 38 | 96 | 10–70 |
| Cogni | 41 | 35 | 102 | 10–80 |
| Special | 7 | 0 | 0 | — |
Best zones to farm mount souls
Because every listed soul drop is 100%, the best farm is not one rare monster: it is a zone where many different soul monsters live side by side. Counting every mount with at least one soul monster spawning in the zone, these are the richest areas on our maps:
| Zone | Map | Mounts | Monster levels | Mostly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ellun River Midstream | Verteron (Elyos) | 19 | 18 | Fera (16) |
| Tranein Highland | Altgard (Asmodian) | 11 | 13–20 | Fera (8) |
| Purifying Forest | Altgard (Asmodian) | 23 | 26–32 | Natura (11), Fera (7) |
| Pilgrim's Ridge | Verteron (Elyos) | 10 | 27 | Fera (8) |
| Fafnite Deposit | Altgard (Asmodian) | 12 | 35–36 | Varian (9) |
| Garden of the Illusion God | Verteron (Elyos) | 19 | 44–45 | Natura (14) |
| Spirit Isle | Altgard (Asmodian) | 16 | 46–48 | Natura (9) |
| Eternal Isle | Verteron (Elyos) | 22 | 49–51 | Natura (10), Cogni (7) |
| Immortal Isle | Altgard (Asmodian) | 23 | 49–51 | Natura (11), Cogni (7) |
| Distorted Old Growth Forest | Chaotic Middle Reshanta (Abyss) | 12 | 50–54 | Fera (5), Natura (5) |
Ellun River Midstream is the standout early spot for Elyos: every soul monster there is level 18, and one loop covers Papis, Sparkie, Sylphen, Kailin, Young Kailin, Slink and 13 more mounts. Asmodians get the same effect in Purifying Forest, which alone holds 11 of the 48 Natura mounts. Use the Verteron and Altgard maps to see the exact spawns.
Best monsters for your first mounts
If you just want quick mounts while you quest, these are the densest low-level soul monsters on each faction's first big map, with spawn points counted on our maps:

| Elyos | Papis | Fera | Gentle Papis (10) | 117 | Eastern and Western Cantas Valley |
| Elyos | Aberrant Tog | Fera | Cairn Tog (13) | 105 | Eastern Cantas Valley |
| Elyos | Marsh Targon | Varian | Marsh Targon (14) | 89 | Ellun River Marsh, Contaminated Marsh |
| Elyos | Kalgolem | Varian | Hard Kalgolem (10) | 84 | Western Cantas Valley |
| Elyos | Fungen | Natura | Red Cap Fungen (12) | 56 | Eastern Cantas Valley |
| Asmodian | Aberrant Bee | Fera | Black Armor Bee (13) | 112 | Calderon Canyon, Nameless Cemetery and nearby |
| Asmodian | Young Kailin | Fera | Young Kailin (20) | 108 | Tranein Highland, Tranein Pond, Sanctum Outpost |
| Asmodian | Dratona | Cogni | Dratona Tinkerer (19) | 104 | Sanctum Outpost |
| Asmodian | Papis | Fera | Faded Papis (11) | 74 | Nameless Cemetery, Safe Haven |
| Asmodian | Drana Mutant | Varian | Twisted Mutant (10) | 50 | Dredgion Crash Site |
Which mounts to unlock first
All released mounts share one movement profile: run 900, sprint 1,200 and boosted glide 800. The order you unlock them in is about type bonuses, not speed. Each type has a three-level bonus that grows with its type level:
| Type | Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fera | Mount Ground Move Speed +1 | Mount Ground Move Speed +2, Accuracy Bonus +1 | Mount Ground Move Speed +3, Accuracy Bonus +2, Dexterity +1 |
| Natura | Stamina +3 | Stamina +6, Critical Hit Resist +1 | Stamina +9, Critical Hit Resist +2, Precision +1 |
| Varian | Mount Sprint Stamina Cost Reduction Rate +0.1% | Mount Sprint Stamina Cost Reduction Rate +0.2%, Evasion Bonus +1 | Mount Sprint Stamina Cost Reduction Rate +0.3%, Evasion Bonus +2, Constitution +1 |
| Cogni | HP +10 | HP +20, Critical Hit +1 | HP +30, Critical Hit +2, Might +1 |
| Special | None | None | None |

- 2Sweep Fera souls first
Fera is the biggest type (65 mounts, 53 of them farmable) and the only one that adds Mount Ground Move Speed. Early Fera farms such as Gentle Papis, Cairn Tog and the whole of Ellun River Midstream cost little more than a detour.
- 3Reach the first milestones
The collection pays 100 Soul Crystal (Bound) at 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 pets, then 10 Empathy Candy (Bound) at 50. Getting there quickly funds your first option rolls.
- 4Fill Natura and Cogni at mid levels
Purifying Forest (levels 26 to 32), Garden of the Illusion God (44 to 45) and Eternal Isle or Immortal Isle (49 to 51) are where most Natura and Cogni souls live.
- 5Treat the Abyss as clean-up
31 mounts have soul monsters in Reshanta (levels 45 to 54), but only 5 of them drop nowhere else, so a Reshanta session is for finishing the list, not for starting it.
Type levels, option slots and Soul Crystal Points
Each of the five types has its own level track from 1 to 10. Reaching level 10 takes 250,000 type EXP in total (500 for the first level-up, 100,000 for the last), and every level from 1 to 9 opens one option slot, so a maxed type has nine. Rolling a slot is what the game calls analyzing Pet Genus Insight: each roll costs 4 Soul Crystals of that type (general Soul Crystals also work) and 1,000 Kina. The client's level table doesn't say exactly which actions award type EXP, so we only list the totals.
| Type level | EXP to next level | Common | Rare | Epic | Unique | Heroic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 500 | 90% | 10% | — | — | — |
| 2 | 1,500 | 70% | 30% | — | — | — |
| 3 | 3,000 | 55% | 45% | — | — | — |
| 4 | 5,000 | 50% | 45% | 5% | — | — |
| 5 | 10,000 | 45% | 45% | 10% | — | — |
| 6 | 20,000 | 40% | 40% | 20% | — | — |
| 7 | 40,000 | 35% | 34% | 30% | 1% | — |
| 8 | 70,000 | 30% | 30% | 35% | 5% | — |
| 9 | 100,000 | 25% | 25% | 39% | 10% | 1% |
| 10 | Max | 20% | 30% | 30% | 15% | 5% |
Grade decides what a slot can roll. Common and Rare options are type-flavoured defensive stats such as Fera Defense, Fera Evasion or Fera Block, plus HP and MP. From Epic up the first slot rolls combat stats: Front Attack, Back Attack, PvE Attack and Boss Attack at Epic, plus Attack Bonus, Max Attack, Critical Attack and Penetration at Unique and Heroic (Penetration rolls 80 to 160 at Unique and 100 to 200 at Heroic). Later slots roll from their own stat pools.
Soul Crystal Points are the balance behind those rolls; the client describes them as "Currency consumed when analyzing Pet Genus Insight." You add to it by using Soul Crystal items: Soul Crystal (Bound) grants one general crystal, and typed versions such as Fera Soul Crystal (Bound) grant one of their type. General crystals come from collection milestones, achievements, hidden cubes, attendance rewards, the Daeva Pass, currency shops, quests such as Missing Mount, and a 5.78% drop from level 45 monsters like Addicted Shulak Worker. Typed crystals come from quests and the Daeva Pass.
Collection milestones and pet titles
The pet collection pays out 51 milestones from 5 to 500 pets. Each one is 100 Soul Crystal (Bound), except every 50th, which is 10 Empathy Candy (Bound) ("Use to transform into the currently equipped pet for 5 min"). With 207 pets in the current client, the reachable milestones stop at 200, worth 1,700 Soul Crystals and 40 Empathy Candy in total.
| Title | Pets | Equipped | Owned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tamed | 10 | Evasion Bonus +14 | Move Speed +0.3% |
| Ride All Creation | 30 | Critical Attack +21 | Move Speed +0.5% |
| Bond with All Creation | 100 | Evasion Bonus +36, Critical Damage Tolerance +2.2% | Move Speed +0.7% |
| Rule All Creation | 200 | Defense Bonus +320, Back Attack Damage Tolerance +3%, Boss Damage Tolerance +4% | Move Speed +1% |
Only one title is equipped at a time, but every title you own keeps its owned bonus. Passing 10, 30, 100 and 200 pets therefore adds Move Speed +0.3%, +0.5%, +0.7% and +1%, which is +2.5% in total from these four titles alone.

Guide FAQ
How many souls do you need for a mount in AION 2?
Five. Every one of the 207 mounts in the global client needs exactly 5 souls to unlock, including the Special mounts such as the Black Dragon.
Where is the best place to farm mount souls in AION 2?
For Elyos, Ellun River Midstream in Verteron: its level 18 monsters drop souls for 19 different mounts. For Asmodians, Purifying Forest in Altgard has soul monsters for 23 mounts at levels 26 to 32. Later, Eternal Isle and Immortal Isle (levels 49 to 51) cover more than 20 mounts each.
What is the drop rate of mount souls?
The client's reward tables list every monster soul drop at 100% per kill, one soul at a time, so a farmable mount takes about five kills. Pet Soul Chests from the Daeva Pass give a random soul of one type instead.
Which mount should I unlock first in AION 2?
Fera mounts. Every mount has the same speed, but the Fera type bonus adds Mount Ground Move Speed (+1 to +3), and Fera is the largest type with 53 farmable mounts. Your free level 10 pet (Fossa, Armadon or Tog) is already Fera.
What are Soul Crystal Points used for?
They pay for Pet Genus Insight rolls on your mount option slots. Each roll costs 4 Soul Crystals of the matching type or general Soul Crystals, plus 1,000 Kina. Soul Crystal items from milestones, achievements, hidden cubes, quests and the Daeva Pass add to the balance.
Can you farm the Black Dragon mount?
No. The Black Dragon is one of seven Special mounts, and none of them has a soul drop in the current client. They also have no type bonus and can't be used for transformation.
