It was shortly after Ariel, the Supreme Empyrean Lord of Elysea, declared war against Pandemonium. At that time the Illusion Legion, under Kaisinel's command, accomplished the remarkable feat of establishing a fortress at the Abyss Gate in just twenty-one days. Given the instability of the Abyss, it was a speed the Asmodians could never hope to match, and though they soon established a fortress of their own, its ragtag brigades drew only scoffs of contempt. In the Abyss, battles erupted almost daily. Bodies of friend and foe alike piled into mountains. In this no man's land where Odyle's influence was all but absent, even Daeva could not defy death. Beyond the Asmodians, the constant threat of Balaur suddenly emerging from some hidden part of the Abyss loomed large. On that knife-edge, Kaisinel gathered elite Guardians from the Illusion Legion most skilled in Odyle magic. Stable Odyle currents were rare in the Abyss, and securing those areas containing them often decided victory. Kaisinel turned his attention to floating islands made of heavy, metallic rock, and devised a tactic to collapse the Asmodian front lines by manipulating the Odyle density around them. In the timeless void of the Abyss, Kaisinel's forces slipped into the enemy camp like the breaking dawn and cast their spells. The moment these spells were unleashed, orbs of mana bearing the mark of Empyrean Lord Lumiel appeared. As if one step ahead of Kaisinel's strategy, they manifested all at once and began to pull at his magic. Like powerful magnetic forces drawing together, warped lines of space and time formed around the dense Odyle, and the resulting shock brought the floating islands crashing down. Kaisinel's vision of a flawless victory ended in total annihilation of his legion. It turned out to be a simple trap spell—one that grew stronger the more powerful the enemy caster. Witnessing the loss of his beloved legion, Kaisinel was overcome with fury. Kaisinel cursed Lumiel for robbing them of honor before the battle had even truly begun. He named the day's defeat after himself, dubbing it Kaisinel's Humiliation, and ordered it be recorded in the histories as such. Following his loss to Lumiel, Kaisinel relocated to Verteron without informing anyone and founded the Ardus Shrine, where the number of dark-natured Spirit spells among his writings increased noticeably.
