Chapter 1: How the Ancients Saw Odyle Deliberating on Odyle, the essence of all life that encompasses Atreia, is a delicate matter. Even in ancient times, the power of Odyle over life was common knowledge. The ancients believed all things arose from union with Odyle, though they often treated it as no more than an alchemical ingredient. Their blind faith in Odyle's power led them to pursue the extraction of high-purity Odyle and the creation of new life. Ancient alchemists mistakenly believed they were omnipotent beings who could control Odyle's power, and were determined to prove themselves. Consequently, the study of Odyle went astray, and ancient alchemy headed down a path of corruption. It is without question that they made the wrong choices, not the least because Odyle is not simply a material that makes up life. Chapter 2: What is Odyle? Today's definition of Odyle is not so different from that of the ancients, save for the crucial difference of recognizing Odyle energy not as simply the material source of life but as a spiritual principle. This viewpoint follows the enlightenment of Lumiel, the Empyrean Lord of Wisdom. Lumiel's definition is regarded as closest to the essence of Odyle and advanced the understandings of Odylogy significantly. Scholars seeking to unravel the mysteries of Odyle have moved beyond traditional materialist thought, venturing into uncharted realms concerning life and the mind. This approach has proven valid following the confirmation that Odyle and life interact to keep Atreia in harmonious balance. Chapter 3: The Power Within Odyle Many examples can be presented to illustrate how Odyle affects life. These relate to the power inherent in Odyle. One well-known case is the "Ascension" of humans into Daeva through Odyle's special influence, and the fact that Kibelisks are placed in areas emitting the purest form of Odyle. Conversely, when Odyle is lacking, forests become barren and deserts spread. Some claim that Balaur within the Abyss have mentally and physically degenerated after excessive exposure to Odyle. These are key examples of how an imbalance of Odyle in either direction can alter life. Still, the fundamental question of what Odyle's power truly is remains unresolved. Chapter 4: The Ability to Harness Odyle The ability to harness Odyle seems to be innate. Thus, "How does one become skilled in using Odyle's power?" is not really the right question. Most people who can manipulate Odyle discovered their gift at some point in life. It might have been triggered by chance or a dream, where they awoke compelled by a mysterious force to morph substances with Odyle. Whatever the cause, Daeva today make broad use of Odyle's power, a talent that is highly valued. Chapter 5: Applications of Odylogy This chapter briefly introduces practical uses of Odylogy. Odyle's applications in healing and resurrection—likely achieved through spiritual effects—are not yet fully understood. Odyle also serves as an ingredient in the morphing of substances in all crafts except cooking. Odyle can appear as powder, crystals, shards, or in its raw form. The purer it is, the more valuable it is for professional crafting. Extracting Odyle requires mastery of Odyle-extraction techniques. This can be purchased with Kina up to a certain level, but Daeva aiming higher must pass a promotion exam. Chapter 6: On Stigma Crystals Stigma Crystals, known to embody part of Odyle's energy, are closely linked to Odyle. During the Millennium War, the Great Catastrophe, and the Elyos-Asmodian War in the Abyss, countless Daeva perished. Though their bodies were destroyed, their spirits roamed Atreia, merged with Odyle, and crystallized for reasons unknown, resulting in Stigma Crystals. Researchers have long focused on how the spiritual essences of deceased Daeva merged with Odyle as it is viewed as a vital key to understanding how Odyle influences life. Despite this, research remains at a standstill, though there is good reason to hope that future breakthroughs in Odylogy will arise from the study of Stigma Crystals.
