AION 2 Hidden Cube Locations: All 206 Cubes and Keys
AION 2 hidden cube locations for all 206 cubes by map and zone, which cubes need a key, every key source, the reward table and a fast farming route.
AION 2 hidden cube locations are spread over four field maps, and the global client is precise about them: 206 cubes, each tied to its own spawn group, with 3,722 candidate spots between them. A cube appears at one of its group's spots, which is why a cube can sit behind a ruin for one player and on a riverbank for the next. Most of the confusion around cubes comes from that one design choice.
The other thing guides tend to miss is the key. In the global client's spawn data, every cube in Verteron and Altgard uses the key-only cube object, and the prompt for that object reads "Cannot open without a key." So the real bottleneck for cube farming is keys, not finding cubes. Below you'll find the counts per map and zone, which cubes you can open for free, every key source we can verify, what the reward table pays and a route that clears the densest zones first.

What are hidden cubes in AION 2?
Hidden cubes are small reward objects placed in the open world. The client files them under their own object category (one for the Elyos maps, one for the Asmodian maps), and a few details from that data explain how they behave in game:
- They are hidden from the world map and the minimap. Both marker flags are switched on for every hidden cube object, so the game never shows you a dot. You find them by eye, or with an external map like ours.
- Opening one takes a 4-second channel ("Opening the Hidden Cube..."), so pick your moment in a busy zone.
- Each cube allows one interaction and then despawns. Whoever opens it first gets it.
- Some cubes sit in water. Of the 206 spawn groups, 15 use the client's water version of the cube: 8 in Verteron, 3 in Altgard and 2 each in Eltnen and Morheim. Check riverbeds and lakeshores when a land search comes up empty.
Opening a cube brings up a confirmation window with the cube's reward list. The client has two buttons for it, "Open" and "Open with Key", plus a rewards view split into "Common Rewards" and "Key Opening Rewards" with a percentage for each entry. That window is the one place the game itself shows you drop chances, so it is worth a look the first time.
How many hidden cubes are there in AION 2?
Our count comes straight from the map spawn tables in the global client: one hidden cube per spawn group, 206 in total. Each of those 206 spawn groups has its own pool of candidate spots, which is why the map shows far more dots than cubes.
| Map | Faction | Hidden Cubes | Candidate spots | Can you open them without a key? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Verteron | Elyos | 95 | 1,440 | No, key-only |
| Eltnen | Elyos | 26 | 456 | Yes, when the regular version spawns |
| Altgard | Asmodian | 59 | 1,371 | No, key-only |
| Morheim | Asmodian | 26 | 455 | Yes, when the regular version spawns |
| Poeta, Ishalgen, Reshanta | Any | 0 | 0 | No cubes on these maps |
Per faction that works out to 121 cubes on the Elyos maps and 85 on the Asmodian maps. Candidate spots per cube range from 2 to 43. The most common sizes are 20 spots (55 cubes), 10 spots (53 cubes) and 30 spots (41 cubes), so expect to check a handful of places before you find the one that is live.
Where to find hidden cubes: locations by zone
Cubes cluster. In Verteron, four zones hold 29 of the 95 cubes, and in Eltnen and Morheim the top three zones hold roughly two thirds of each map. These are the zones worth planning around, with their cube counts and candidate spots from the same spawn data:
| Map | Zone | Cubes | Candidate spots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verteron | Altamia Canyon | 9 | 90 |
| Verteron | Ellun River Midstream | 7 | 70 |
| Verteron | Verteron Fortress Ruins | 7 | 90 |
| Verteron | Aullaeu Village | 6 | 95 |
| Eltnen | Eiron Hill | 7 | 95 |
| Eltnen | Eltnen Barrier Tower Ruins | 6 | 65 |
| Eltnen | Ruberein Highland | 5 | 110 |
| Altgard | Dredgion Crash Site | 6 | 160 |
| Altgard | Purifying Forest, Battlescar Mound, Western Gribade Highland | 4 each | 120, 120, 70 |
| Morheim | Nephra Snowfield | 7 | 95 |
| Morheim | Iralcig Highland, Muspel Volcano Zone | 5 each | 115, 100 |
Verteron and Altgard: wide spread
Verteron's 95 cubes are spread across 45 zone entries, so after the big four the rest are ones and twos scattered through places like Western and Eastern Cantas Valley, Kraka Footpath and the Forest of Exiles (4 each). Altgard is similar: after the four zones above, the remaining cubes sit in groups of one to three across 25 more zone entries. You won't clear either map in one sitting without a plan, which is where the route below helps.
Eltnen and Morheim: compact maps
The second field maps are much tighter. Eltnen's 26 cubes sit in just 8 zones and Morheim's 26 in 8, with the top three zones on each map holding 18 and 17 cubes. Dredgion Crash Site in Altgard is the outlier for search effort: 6 cubes with 160 candidate spots, more than any other zone in the game.
Do you need a key to open hidden cubes?
It depends on the map. The client has two kinds of hidden cube object. The regular one shows the line "Use a key to get better rewards." and offers both "Open" and "Open with Key". The key-only one shows "Cannot open without a key." and nothing else. Which one spawns is set per spawn group:
- Every spawn group lists only the key-only cube object.
- No key in your bag means no reward, so carry keys before you go hunting.
- Rewards come from the key table, so every open is a boosted open.
- Every spawn group lists two objects: a regular cube and a key-only twin.
- When the regular version spawns you can open it free or spend a key for the better table.
- These cubes point at their own level-scaled reward tables in the client.
VerdictFree cube opening is an Eltnen and Morheim thing. On the starting field maps, a hidden cube is a key sink.
Where to get Hidden Cube keys
The item is Key: Hidden Cube (Bound), described in game as "A key that can open a Hidden Cube. Boosting the Cube's energy will yield more valuable rewards." It stacks to 100 and cannot be traded. The client's item source list ties it to these places:
| Source | Keys | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hero quest: Odyle Collection (Elyos) or Contaminated Area (Asmodian) | 1 | Recommended level 11, fixed reward |
| District quest: Nine Wonders of Verteron: 2nd Leg or Nine Wonders of Altgard: 2nd Leg | 1 | Recommended level 33 (Elyos) or 32 (Asmodian) |
| "Who Brought the Chest?" achievement, tiers I to VII | 7 | One per tier, for opening 3 up to 200 cubes |
| Season Shop | Up to 10 | 3,000 Oath Coin each, 10 per account, listed until December 16 2026 |
| Duty quests, such as Wanted: Worshiper Dekish | Bonus | 340 level 45+ Duty quests are listed as key sources, but the key is not in their fixed reward |
| Battle pass, Monolith, attendance | Varies | Listed as sources in the client; amounts not in the tables we decoded |
The fixed sources add up to 9 keys per character from quests and achievements, plus 10 per account from the Season Shop. That is nowhere near the 154 key-only cubes, so Duty quests and the recurring sources (pass, attendance, Monolith) are what will actually keep you supplied. Our daily and weekly checklist covers where Duty quests fit in a play session.
Hidden cube rewards: what drops and what a key adds
Our hidden cube page lists the 36 reward entries the client links to hidden cubes, and both factions share the same list. Grouped by use:
- Pet and gear growth: Soul Crystal (Bound) for pets, Soul Codex (Bound) and Soul Codex: Reset (Bound) for Soul Binding, and Small Odyle Energy (Bound), which recharges 10 Odyle Energy for dungeon reward cubes.
- Currency material: Silentium (Bound), which you hand in for Supply Requests (Abyss Points) or sell to shops for bound Kinah.
- Combat consumables: Power Shard (Bound) and Superior Power Shard (Bound) (5% and 10% extra attack damage), Mana Potion, Life Crystal, Resurrection Spiritstone, Status Effect Resist Scroll and Seed of Detection.
- Skin crafting: the Lucky Aura (Bound) line, which raises the odds of combining skins into a higher grade (10% for Common, Rare and Epic, 5% for Unique).
- Cosmetics: five Unique helm skins such as Saam Laurel, four earring and four necklace skins such as White Petal Sigh, the Epic Apple Candy helm skin, two Shugo transformation candies and Emote: Kurukuru.
- The big one: Radiant Love Wings, Unique wings whose tooltip lists Defense Bonus 400 and Evasion Bonus 35 when equipped.
The client keeps a regular cube table and a key table side by side, and comparing them shows what a key is worth. Quantities scale up hard, and the rarest rolls get more weight:
| Reward | Regular open | Key open |
|---|---|---|
| Silentium (Bound) | 1 guaranteed, 50% chance of 1 more | 10 guaranteed, two 50% chances of 1 more |
| Small Odyle Energy (Bound) | 20% chance | 50% chance |
| Soul Crystal (Bound) roll | 100 | 1,000 |
| Power Shard or Superior Power Shard roll | 50 to 100 | 100 to 200 |
| Soul Codex (Bound) roll | 1 | 5 |
| Mana Potion roll | 1 or 2 | 3 to 5 |
| Radiant Love Wings, skin and emote rolls | Base weight | Double the weight |
| Soul Codex: Reset and Resurrection Spiritstone rolls | Base weight | Ten times the weight |
| Seed of Detection | Not on the table | Key table only |
For most players the Soul Crystal roll is the practical prize, since 1,000 Soul Crystals from a single key is a big step for pet growth; our mounts and wings guide covers what they feed. The wings and the Unique skins are the lottery tickets, and a key doubles your shot at them.
Do hidden cubes respawn?
What the data shows: a cube despawns when it is opened, it is not a one-time-per-character object, and it is not on the timed schedule the client uses for field bosses and rifts (that table has 22 entries, none of them cubes). What it does not show is a respawn timer, so we won't quote one. Because each cube can appear at any of its group's spots, don't assume a cube will return to the exact spot where you found it.
The achievement ladder is a useful hint about intent: "Who Brought the Chest?" runs up to 200 opens, and an Asmodian has only 85 cubes on their maps. Reaching 200 means opening cubes more than once, so plan on cubes being a repeatable activity rather than a one-time sweep.
Hidden cube achievements and titles
| Tier | Cubes opened | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| I | 3 | 1 key, 4,000 Kina (Bound) |
| II | 10 | 1 key, 6,000 Kina (Bound) |
| III | 30 | 1 key, 8,000 Kina (Bound), title BLEEP BLOOP BLEEP BLOOP |
| IV | 50 | 1 key, 10,000 Kina (Bound) |
| V | 100 | 1 key, 12,000 Kina (Bound), title It's Okay to Be Imperfect |
| VI | 150 | 1 key, 13,000 Kina (Bound) |
| VII | 200 | 1 key, 14,000 Kina (Bound) |
The full ladder pays 7 keys, 67,000 bound Kinah and two titles. Each tier hands back the key you need for the next few opens, which matters on Verteron and Altgard where every cube costs one. The client's battle pass and event pass mission lists also include "Open a Hidden Cube", so check your pass before you open your first one.
Best hidden cube farming route
This route assumes you are at or near the level 45 cap with access to both of your faction's field maps. It hits the densest zones first and uses each zone's Kibelisks as teleport anchors.
- 1Stock keys before you leave town
Count your keys and plan around them. On Verteron or Altgard, one key equals one cube. Buy the Season Shop keys if you have Oath Coin, and clear any Duty quests you have open first, since they can drop keys.
- 2Start on the compact map
Eltnen or Morheim first, because some cubes there open for free. On Eltnen, chain Eiron Hill (7), Eltnen Barrier Tower Ruins (6) and Ruberein Highland (5), which has 3 Kibelisks to port between. On Morheim, run Nephra Snowfield (7), Iralcig Highland (5) and Muspel Volcano Zone (5).
- 3Open free when it is free, key when it matters
On a regular cube, open for free unless you are chasing Soul Crystals or the wings. Save keys for when the 10 Silentium and the bigger rolls actually help you.
- 4Switch to the big map with keys in hand
In Verteron, do Altamia Canyon (9), Ellun River Midstream (7), Verteron Fortress Ruins (7) and Aullaeu Village (6). Each has 2 Kibelisks, and together they hold 29 of the map's 95 cubes. In Altgard, start at Dredgion Crash Site (6), then Purifying Forest, Battlescar Mound and Western Gribade Highland (4 each).
- 5Search clusters, not single dots
Each cube has 2 to 43 candidate spots, and only one is live. Sweep a whole cluster on our map before you move on, and check the water for the 15 water cubes.
- 6Fill gaps while questing
The single-cube zones are not worth a dedicated trip. Turn the Hidden Cubes layer on while you do dailies and grab the ones on your path.
How to use our interactive map and hidden cube page
The game hides cubes from its own map, so ours does the work. There are two ways in:
- The hidden cubes page gives one section per map with the full spot layer, plus a zone table showing how many cubes and candidate spots each zone has. Use it to plan which zones are worth a trip.
- The interactive map of each region, such as Eltnen or Morheim, has a Hidden Cubes layer. Tick it on, zoom in, and hover a dot to confirm it is a cube. Turn on Kibelisks as well to see your nearest teleport.
- Read the dots as candidate spots, not cubes. A tight cluster is usually one cube with 10 to 30 possible positions, so walk the cluster in one pass.
- Zone pages, such as Altamia Canyon, show the cube count next to the zone's monsters and gathering nodes, which helps when you want to stack cube hunting with other farming.
If you are new to the field maps, our beginner's guide covers Kibelisks and travel, and the Kinah farming guide shows how Silentium and the other bound rewards fit into your income.

Guide FAQ
How many hidden cubes are in AION 2?
The global client defines 206 hidden cubes, one per spawn group. Verteron has 95, Altgard 59, Eltnen 26 and Morheim 26. Poeta, Ishalgen and the Abyss have none.
Why can I not open a hidden cube in Verteron?
Every hidden cube in Verteron and Altgard is the key-only version, which shows the message that it cannot be opened without a key. You need a Key: Hidden Cube in your inventory, and each key opens one cube.
Where do you get Hidden Cube keys in AION 2?
Keys come from an early Hero quest, a District quest, the Who Brought the Chest achievement tiers, the Season Shop for Oath Coin, and as a bonus from level 45 Duty quests. The battle pass, Monolith and attendance rewards are also listed as sources.
What do hidden cubes drop?
They drop Silentium, Soul Crystals, Soul Codex items, Power Shards, potions and Small Odyle Energy, with rare chances at Unique helm, earring and necklace skins, an emote and the Radiant Love Wings. Opening with a key multiplies the amounts and improves the rare rolls.
Do hidden cubes respawn in AION 2?
A cube despawns when someone opens it, and it is not a one-time object or part of the timed spawn schedule used for field bosses. The client data does not give a respawn timer, and a cube can come back at a different candidate spot.
Can other players take my hidden cube?
Yes. A cube allows a single interaction and despawns afterward, so the first player to finish the 4-second open gets the reward. Open cubes as soon as you find them.
