If only I could reach him, surely... surely he would save her. Date: xx/xx It has been half a month since arriving at the sanctum, yet Elira's condition shows no improvement. My prayers are answered only with silence. The pilgrims told me that my faith must be lacking. Date: xx/xx Elira died today. I felt her small, fragile hand grow cold in mine. No more prayers. My faith has died with her. Date: xx/xx They still kneel, still press their hands together. What is a prayer? You make us stake everything on your name, yet where art though, o' almighty Empyrean Lord? Date: xx/xx I saw children playing. Not one of them seemed any more special than my own. My pain, the despair of being abandoned by your god... they should know it too. (There is a long gap between entries.) Date: xx/xx I found it. At the foot of the divine, yet beyond his gaze, in a deep rift... I will lock you away and give you the same pain that Elira and I endured. (The journal ends here.)
