Mama's Bark Bread Recipe for Hard Times

My sweet little ones, I write this recipe down for Marysia, since she can read. This bread will not be like the ones you remember, but it will keep you alive if we are not to be around. Trust that better days will come.

What you need:

Stripped inner bark from pine or birch trees (ground into powder)

A handful of ground rye, oats, or any flour you can find

Water

A pinch of salt, maybe you can find it somewhere

Dry the inner bark and grind it as fine as you can, add flour. Slowly add water until thick, shape into flat cakes.

Cook on a hot stone near the fire.

Eat slowly, my loves. It is not much, but it will fill your bellies.
