How Ambers work and how to equip them
Game dataSlots, ranks and the two Ambers that change the rules, as the game's progression data defines them.
Ambers are passive modifiers you socket into your character. The game's progression data defines 5 Amber slots, unlocked at player levels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9: the first slot is open from the start and the fifth opens at level 9, so a full five-Amber setup arrives very early in the campaign.
15 of the 29 Ambers are ranked. Their stack limit is 3 and the rank equals the number of copies you hold, so picking up a second and a third copy of the same Amber raises it to rank II and rank III. The other 14 Ambers have a single rank. The tables below give each effect's value at every rank, read from the game's curve tables.
Perfect Copy is the exception: its own text says it raises the rank of every other equipped Tier 1 and Tier 2 Amber, the only way to push an Amber past the number of copies the world holds. Two Ambers also rewrite the Ferrofluid Flask: Butcher's Carnage stops flasks from healing you, and Life Diverted makes them restore Nephtoglobin instead of Health.

- Ambersmith · Gather all Ambers. · 0.6% of Steam players
Valor Mortis has 29 Ambers: 15 that rank up to III by stacking copies and 14 single-rank Ambers, slotted into 5 slots that are all open by player level 9. The game places 62 copies in total. Life Diverted is the most plentiful with 4, while 13 Ambers exist exactly once. Supply keeps 2 ranked Ambers below rank III unless you equip Perfect Copy: Potent Concoction (II), Bountiful Harvest (I). One side-quest choice decides between Lucky Shot, Sleight of Hand. Sleight of Hand has no other source in the game data, so that choice is your only chance at it. Start in The Battlefield, which holds 9 Ambers, then test five-slot combinations in the Amber Build Planner.
