The regret spills in my mouth and it's bitter, so bitter.

Or is it the taste of the medicine they gave us?

I know I will die here. The doctor says it's a hospital, but the screams echoing in this place don't sound like screams of patients being cured, but rather like folks being tortured.

The fellow in the next cell whispers to me through a crack in the wall. He says he saw wheelbarrows of dismembered, twisted bodies being thrown into the sewers like rubbish.

I can hear something moving beneath the grates. Crawling, howling... Could the plague have brought them back? Are they out there, the other volunteers?

Forgotten, desacrated...

Will that be me one day?
