How to complete The Oathbound
Game dataA step-by-step walkthrough built from the quest's journal entries, clue letters and reward data.
Missable: Finish it before the Fortress's High Tower: after that the story moves to Napoleon's Prison and Entropy, which have no fast travel.
- Defeat an Eternal Guard and find the hidden emblem under his shirt — that starts the quest.
- Collect all seven Oathbound emblems from Eternal Guards: Valen Duroc, Lucien Lafontaine, Étienne Vauclair, Jean Pierre Polnaire, Severin Susse, Adrien Casell and Bastien Beaufort.
- Read A Letter from Bastien Beaufort (about 89 m from Tribunal Square, City of Orphans): he summons his brothers to 'the Chamber' in the castle.
- The quest also tracks seven Mysterious Stone Pyramids from fallen Eternal Guards; assembled into the Mysterious Stone Slab they look like a key 'connected to the ruins of the old castle'.
- In the castle's hidden chamber — the Fortress, where the Codex of the Oathbound lies about 93 m from the Courtyard Lantern — the truth comes out and a final duel ends the quest (step 9).
- Reward: no item, but it unlocks We Wear the Same Colours, held by about 0.2% of Steam players.

I found a mysterious emblem on the body of the Eternal Guard I had defeated. It bore unusual markings and was hidden beneath his shirt, as though he wished to conceal it. Are there other Eternal Guards who carry the same emblem? I have a feeling that finding the remaining emblems will solve this mystery — that is, of course, if there are any.

- 9Final entry
In the hidden chamber of the castle, I have at last uncovered the truth behind the sigil of the Eternal Guards. They were Napoleon's elite fencers — men who refused to draw upon the power of the plague and become mindless monsters. Instead, they formed a secret order, the Oathbound, sworn to serve the Emperor while preserving their humanity. This choice left them at a grave disadvantage in battle, yet they fought on with unwavering loyalty and resolve. The Oathbound were hidden for a reason. Those who embraced the plague saw them as traitors and hunted them without mercy. One of these fencers found their refuge, slew Bastien Beaufort, and then turned his blade upon me. They were worthy adversaries. Though we crossed swords on opposite sides, their courage and devotion cannot be denied. May they rest in peace.
