Day 1
The nice lady locked the door. She said we were sick and promised to make us better. She said we would get bread and broth, but we only got a little bitter water.
Day 3
We hear people downstairs with bottles. The lady tells them the bottles are for us, but we never see the medicine. We only hear her footsteps and her eyes countin us like we're coins.
Day 5
We whisper about good food. The room smells bad, and the window is nailed shut. The lady doesn't look at us anymore.
Day 8
Some of us are very still now. The lady smiles at strangers and thanks them for saving us. The strangers don't come upstairs. They don't hear us scratching at the door.
Day 10
The lady tells us to be quiet. It is too quiet now. I do not want to close my eyes.
