Everything above walks in from outside the event radius, so a wall and a raised platform matter more than raw damage: the spawns path toward you and a stake wall buys the time to shoot them.
The horde is attacking! is a Valheim raid unlocked by Moder and lasting 2 min. It sends Fuling, Fuling Berserker, Fuling Shaman and can fire in Plains, Meadows, Black Forest. It stops being possible once Yagluth — the game keeps a key for that and quietly drops the raid from the pool rather than announcing it.

What unlocks The horde is attacking!?
Moder. The game records that as a world key, and the raid joins the pool from then on.
How long does The horde is attacking! last?
2 min. It can fire in Plains, Meadows, Black Forest, and everything it sends walks in from outside the event radius rather than appearing on top of you.
What triggers The horde is attacking!?
It becomes possible Moder. Until then the game will not roll it at all, which is why a raid that "never happens" is usually a raid that has not been unlocked yet rather than bad luck.
Does The horde is attacking! ever stop?
Yes — it stops being rolled Yagluth. Valheim retires early raids as you progress, so the ones that terrorised your first base quietly disappear.
What attacks during The horde is attacking!?
Fuling, Fuling Berserker, Fuling Shaman. The spawns are fixed rather than scaled to your gear, so the answer is the same on day five and day five hundred; what changes is whether you can hold the wall.
How do you survive The horde is attacking!?
Raids target structures within 96 metres of you, and they spawn outside your base rather than inside it. A wall with no gap at ground level, a raised earth bank, and somewhere to shoot from turns almost every raid into a queue. Fighting in the open is what makes them dangerous.
