What every one of the 406 harvestable nodes in Valheim needs before it will break, and exactly what it gives you. Tool tiers run from 0 to 5, and a node simply will not yield to anything below its requirement. Both sides of that comparison are read from the game files, so this is exact rather than the folklore tables that circulate.

What pickaxe do I need for silver in Valheim?
Silver veins require a tier 2 pickaxe, and they are immune to every damage type except pickaxe damage, so an axe will not work no matter how strong it is.
What tool tier does copper need in Valheim?
Copper is tier 0, meaning the starting antler pickaxe already works. The tool ladder only begins to bite from iron upward.
How many resources need a better tool in Valheim?
Far fewer than the ladder suggests: 3 of 113. The other 110 come out with whatever you happen to be holding. The tool tiers matter enormously for the handful of ores that gate a biome, and almost not at all for everything else.
What is the highest tool tier in Valheim?
Tier 5. That is the highest tier you need in order to obtain any resource, measured across 406 breakable nodes. Only 3 of the 113 resources sit above tier 0 at all, so the ladder is really a short list of gates rather than a scale you climb.
Does a better pickaxe mine faster in Valheim?
Not because of its tier. Tier is a pass/fail gate: below what the node requires, the hit reads "Too hard" and does literally nothing; at or above it, the node takes your damage exactly as it would from any other tool. A better pickaxe is faster only because it hits harder, and upgrading one you already qualify with changes nothing about what you can reach.
