How raids work
The game checks periodically whether any event qualifies where you are standing, then picks one at random. Most only fire near something you have built, and spawns appear roughly 96 metres out and walk in. A raid needs its world keys set and stops being eligible the moment a key it excludes appears, which is why the swamp raid quietly disappears once Bonemass is dead.

What triggers a raid in Valheim?
A world key, which the game sets when a boss dies. The first raid needs no key at all; every later one waits for a specific kill. There are 11 in total.
Do raids stop happening?
Individually, yes. Each raid also lists keys that disqualify it, so killing the next boss retires the previous raid rather than stacking it. New, harder ones take its place.
Can you avoid raids entirely?
Most of them only fire near something you have built, so staying away from your base avoids them. They cannot be turned off, but a walled base with a few defences turns the 11 of them from an emergency into an interruption.
How long does a raid last in Valheim?
The longest runs 3 min. Eikthyr rallies the creatures of the forest is the one most players meet first, and every raid has a fixed duration rather than lasting until you win — so holding a defensible spot until the timer expires is a legitimate answer, not a cheat.
What attacks you during a Valheim raid?
20 different creatures appear across the 11 raids, and there are 7 further events that are not attacks at all. Which raid you get depends on what you have done in the world, so the roster shifts as you progress rather than scaling with a single difficulty number.
