Crafting

The 104 station conversions in Valheim across 11 stations, with what goes in, what comes out and how long it takes. Smelting, the kiln, cooking and fermenting are not recipes: they live on the station itself, which is why a recipe list alone can never tell you how to make a bar or a cooked meal.

What each station holds

The recipes above say what goes in and what comes out. This says how much of it the station takes at once, and what it burns doing so — which is what decides whether a base runs unattended or needs feeding every few minutes. Windmill holds the most at 50, and 4 of the 8 stations need fuel on top of their input.

Stations that produce on their own

These take no input at all. They fill up over time and wait for you to empty them, so the only thing that limits them is how often you walk past.

  • Beehive produces Honey, up to 4 at a time, one roughly every 20 minutes.
  • Birds' Nest produces Feathers, up to 4 at a time, one roughly every 20 minutes.
  • Sap Extractor produces Sap, up to 10 at a time, one roughly every 1 minutes.

Valheim’s stations perform 104 conversions across 11 stations. These are not recipes: smelting, kiln, cooking and fermenting all live on the station itself, which is why a recipe list alone never shows you how to make a bar or a cooked meal.

Valheim Crafting FAQ

How do you smelt ore in Valheim?

Ore goes into a smelter with coal as fuel and comes out as bars on a timer. Smelting is a station conversion rather than a recipe, so it does not appear in any crafting menu.

How many crafting stations are there in Valheim?

11 stations perform conversions, covering 104 input-to-output pairs between them. Times and fuel costs are listed per conversion.

How much does a smelter hold?

Capacity varies by station — see the table above. Windmill takes the most at 50 units. The figure matters because it decides how long a base runs unattended: a station loaded to capacity keeps working while you sail.

How much coal does smelting use?

4 of the 8 stations burn fuel, and each lists how much it uses per item produced in the table above. Fuel and input have separate capacities, so a station can be full of ore and still stall for want of coal.

Which stations produce something from nothing?

The ones listed under "produce on their own" — they take no input and fill on a timer. They are the only production in the game that costs you nothing but the trip to collect.

Do stations keep working when you are away?

Only while the area is loaded. Valheim simulates what is near a player, so a smelter left running in a base nobody is standing in is paused rather than working. That is why capacity matters more than speed — you want it to run the whole time you are there, not to finish faster.
