Progression Order

Valheim gates every biome behind a boss, and each kill unlocks the materials for the next tier of gear. This is the full order across 8 steps, what each boss opens up, and the Forsaken power it grants with the real numbers behind it. Nothing here is guesswork about the intended route.

Step 1 · Meadows

Defeat: Eikthyr

Forsaken power

Eikthyr: The grace of the mighty stag flows through you. Your ability to move around is improved, be it on land or in water.

  • Swim stamina -60%

Lasts 5 min, then 20 min cooldown

  • Blunt, Slash, Pierce: Slightly resistant
  • Block stamina -5

Lasts 5 min, then 20 min cooldown

Fader: The Emerald Flame never relents. You shall stand your ground, even when it is aflame, and you shall use all the advantages the battle may offer you.

  • Fire: Resistant
  • Stagger taken -50%
  • Adrenaline gain +100%

Lasts 5 min, then 20 min cooldown

Step 8 · Deep North

Defeat: Kall Fimbulbringer

Valheim is gated into 8 boss-locked stages. Each boss unlocks the materials needed to survive the next biome, which is why the order is effectively fixed even though nothing in the game states it. The sequence is Eikthyr -> The Elder -> Bonemass -> Moder -> Yagluth -> The Queen -> Fader -> Kall Fimbulbringer.

Valheim Progression FAQ

What order should I progress through Valheim?

The sequence is Eikthyr -> The Elder -> Bonemass -> Moder -> Yagluth -> The Queen -> Fader -> Kall Fimbulbringer. Progression is enforced by materials rather than a quest log: it is difficult to smelt the next tier of gear without the previous boss’s drop, though it is possible with tricks like letting creatures smash the nodes for you.

Do I have to fight Valheim bosses in order?

Effectively yes. Nothing blocks you from travelling ahead, but the gear needed to survive each biome is locked behind the previous boss, so skipping means going in badly under-equipped.

What do the Forsaken powers do in Valheim?

Each boss drops a trophy you hang on the sacrificial stones to claim its Forsaken power, 7 in total. Only one can be active at a time, and every one of them lasts 5 min on a 20 min cooldown. The exact effects are: Eikthyr (Running stamina -60% · Jump stamina -60% · Swim stamina -60%); The Elder (Health regeneration +30% · +60% Chop, Pickaxe damage); Bonemass (Block stamina -100% · Blunt, Slash, Pierce: Slightly resistant · Block stamina -5); Moder (Frost: Resistant · Carry weight +300 · Movement speed +10%); Yagluth (Farming +25 · +10% Chop, Fire, Blunt, Frost, Slash, Pierce, Poison, Spirit, Pickaxe, Lightning damage · Lightning: Resistant); The Queen (Eitr regeneration +100% · Sneak stamina -100% · Poison: Resistant); Fader (Fire: Resistant · Stagger taken -50% · Adrenaline gain +100%).

Can you skip bosses in Valheim?

Technically yes, and in practice barely. Nothing locks the 8 bosses behind each other — you can sail to any of them at any point. What stops you is that each one drops the key material of the next tier, so skipping ahead means arriving with gear from two biomes back rather than skipping any actual content.

Can you change which Forsaken power you have?

Freely, at any sacrificial stone, as long as you carry the trophy. Only one of the 7 can be active at a time, each runs 5 min and then recharges for 20 min, so the sensible habit is to pick the power on the way out of the base rather than treating it as a permanent choice.
