The Carpenter is a Building achievement, and the game checks 389 separate things before it unlocks — 0 of them have a page of their own, linked above. The one-line description Valheim shows you does not list any of them, which is why a long achievement can feel like it is not tracking: it is, against the list above.

How to get The Carpenter

How do you unlock The Carpenter in Valheim?

By satisfying all 389 conditions listed above. 0 of them have their own page, so you can work through them one at a time.

Do you need a fresh world for The Carpenter?

Not on its own. Progress is tracked per character rather than per world, so anything you have already done in another world still counts towards it.

Does world difficulty matter for The Carpenter?

No. The Carpenter is set to accept any difficulty, like almost every achievement in the game — only three carry a world-difficulty requirement. Whatever settings your world was created with, this one can still be earned.

How is progress towards The Carpenter tracked?

Against your player profile rather than the world, through the conditions listed above, 389 of them. The game keeps running counters — things killed, items crafted, food eaten, pieces placed — and checks them whenever one changes, so progress carries between worlds and characters rather than resetting with a save.

What do you get for The Carpenter?

Nothing, mechanically. There is no reward field on an achievement anywhere in the game: it holds an icon, its conditions, a difficulty requirement and a flag saying whether it has fired. No item, no power, no recipe. They are a record of what you have done, not a progression system.
