Is the Claymore good? Our verdict
CalculatedHow the Claymore plays, where it wins and where it loses, read from its stats, traits and moveset.
- Playstyle
- The Claymore is the heavy hitter: 50 damage at level 1 and 100 at level 10, the most of any blade at every level, with 15 posture per hit. It cannot parry, only block, and its light chain is three hits at 25 Endurance each. The Aim button channels Transmutations through the blade: a Burning Wave (60 to 132 damage, builds Ignite) or, held, a Wave of Stasis (40 to 130 damage). Rampage (level 2) builds with every attack and empowers the next Heavy Attack (2x damage and posture) or cheapens the next Nephtoglobin Transmutation, and Bloodlust (level 10) heals 30 when you spend it.
- Strengths
- Highest blade damage at every level (50 to 100)
- Fewest hits on every boss (50 light hits for Entity at level 10)
- 15 posture per hit (Saber 5, Rapier 3)
- Burning Wave and Wave of Stasis on Aim
- Flesh Wound (level 8) reduces damage taken while attacking
- Weaknesses
- Cannot parry
- Light attacks cost 25 Endurance, charged attacks 35
- Short three-hit light chain
- Only found in Cursed Hollow (region 6)
- Ambers that fit
- Glass Soldier (+20 to 30% melee damage) and Perfectionism stack well on its big hits, and Warrior's Fury (+10 to 30% damage for 8 s after a kill) keeps crowds falling. Lunatic's Grasp (+30 to 50% Ignite and Stasis build-up) strengthens the waves at the cost of your own resistances, and Indestructible Shell pairs with the Bulwark trait against explosions.
