Valheim Mistlands Survival Guide: Seeing, Eitr and Seekers

The Mistlands take away your ability to see before they take anything else. How to clear the fog, get your first eitr, and survive Seekers and Gjall.

Every previous biome could be solved with better numbers. The Mistlands cannot, because its first hazard is not damage — it is that you cannot see. The fog reduces visibility to a few metres, hides cliffs you will fall off, and lets a 1,500-health Seeker Soldier walk into melee range before you know it exists. Your first upgrade here is not armour. It is line of sight.

The fog is the first boss

Wisp Fountains appear as glowing stone basins scattered through the biome. Stand near one at night with an empty hand and catch a Wisp, then craft a Wisplight at the workbench. Worn in the utility slot it burns a small bubble of clear air around you — not much, but enough to see the ground, spot a ledge, and notice a Seeker before it lands on you. Everything else about the Mistlands becomes tractable once you can see.

Seekers resist everything you have been using

Read the resistance list and the design intent is obvious. A Seeker is Resistant to blunt, slash and pierce — every physical damage type in the game. Its claws hit for 120 pierce and its takeoff does 200. The Seeker Soldier has 1,500 health and the same immunities. This is the biome where the game stops accepting a sword and a shield as an answer, and hands you eitr, staves and the Mistlands' elemental weapons instead.

  • Seeker Aspic gives 85 eitr with 28 health and a 30-minute burn — the standard magic-build anchor.
  • Magecap gives a balanced 25 health, 25 stamina and 25 eitr for 15 minutes — the cheap filler.
  • Misthare Supreme is the biome's best pure health food at 85, with the highest regen in the game at 5.
  • Eitr regenerates on its own, but only if you have an eitr-granting food active — without one, every stave is dead weight.

Guide FAQ

How do you see in the Valheim Mistlands?

Craft a Wisplight. Find a Wisp Fountain at night, catch a Wisp with an empty hand, and build the item at a workbench. Worn in the utility slot it holds a clear bubble around you that moves as you move. There is no other way to remove the fog, and without it the biome is functionally unplayable.

What weapon works against Seekers?

Not a physical one. Seekers are Resistant to blunt, slash and pierce alike, which covers every sword, mace, axe, spear and bow in the game. Fire, frost, lightning and eitr-based magic all land at full value. If you want to stay melee, a weapon that carries an elemental damage component alongside its physical one is the compromise.

What is eitr and how do you get it?

Eitr is the magic resource, and it is the whole point of the Mistlands. You unlock it by refining Sap from Infested Mines into Refined Eitr, then you sustain it by eating an eitr food — Seeker Aspic gives 85, Magecap 25. The bar only exists while such a food is active, so a magic build has to give up one of its three food slots permanently.

Are the Dvergr hostile in Valheim?

Not unless you attack them. Dvergr guards ignore you, and you can open every crate and barrel in their outposts without consequence. Hit one, though, and the whole camp becomes hostile permanently — and their gear is strong enough that a camp fight is a real fight. Most players simply loot and leave.

How do you deal with a Gjall?

Get under cover first. A Gjall has 1,500 health, resists fire, spits for 80 fire plus 50 blunt and drops burning larvae from above — all of which lands on open ground and none of which lands under a rock overhang or inside a roofed structure. Take the shelter, then shoot it with arrows. Fighting one in the open, with Seekers still around, is how a Mistlands trip ends.
